WT athletics has gotten ZERO credit from Rikel for contributions to the university's budget. That was always THE contentious issue between McBroom and Rikel. 400 athletes, student trainers, managers, cheerleaders, marching band, friends at WT because of them, etc., most paying full freight to be at WT. McBroom always said that athletic-related income WT derived in tuition, fees, dorms, etc swamped what WT invested in athletics. Alll McB ever asked for was recognition of that fact and and fair treatment for athletics. Yet, Rikel (and by default Wendler) continually dismissed those contributions to WT's top and bottom lines. Rikel, in particular, protected his fiefdom, his territory, his power, above all else.

    Good riddance.

Watching the Houston news this morning and saw that Prairie View A&M won the SWAC and is going to play South Carolina State for the HBCU championship.

They were interviewing Tremaine Jackson the head coach for Prairie View A&M who made the D2 national championship game with Valdosta State last year.

He was a finalist for the head coaching position at West Texas A&M when they decided to hire Hunter Hughes instead.

WT also decided to hire Josh Lynn instead of Kris McCullough.

Hopefully the new athletic director will eliminate the one year contract rule and hire/retain elite coaches.

RJ Martinez is an FBS QB who transferred to WT to have a chance to play. Of course he’s good. And any really good D2 QB is going to be a one-season-only situation. They’re either done with eligibility or they are transferring up.

No D2 team is going to have an RJ Martinez for multiple seasons. Of course, that phenomenon is true throughout college football. These are all paid mercenary ballers. One semester deals.

It only took Lynn 2 years to decide Johnson's athleticism didn't include passing, though he still let him throw some picks this year. Johnson became a very good receiver.

I watched the Heritage Bowl and it seems like WT phoned it in after Martinez's fumble. The pass for the winning 2 point conversion looked good to me, but the receiver was partly shaded and it was hard to tell if he actually had possession. WT was ahead 28-13 and managed to win the game only when the 2 point conversion failed, 28-27.

I am sorry we only had RJ Martinez for one season. He was fun to watch and could have been even better with good coaching.

One of the best deep ball throwers I've ever seen in D2. Kiehl Frazier at Ouachita, who started at QB at Auburn, is the last D2 guy I saw that could spin it deep like him.

Martinez is a great player. Congrats young fella.

Its a huge red flag how much Kanon Gibson improved under a different coaching staff.

My big question......will Lynn gut it up and replace Richter as DC? I hope so.
