This time of year the games become more important. BIG game with ASU tomorrow. Both teams are 6-2 in the conference. ASU is 9-10 overall while Wt is 13-9. In LSC play ASU is 1-4 on the road while WT is undefeated at home. Home court advantage is very real at Wt. I would think there would be 1,200+ fans at the game. Two of our starters should be fully recovered from Covid. Their PT and effectiveness have been limited. Been missing a guard due to injury, she should be back. If everyone is fully recovered Wt should be a 10 point favorite - but that's why we play the games.

In a game that was closer than the score, Wt 62 - ASU 47, Wt came away with a hard-earned victory. The final margin was fueled by a 12-2 run over the final 4:00 of the game. ASU controlled the pace of the game thru-out the contest. ASU is a well-coached disciplined team. They will be a tough out in the tournament. Freshman Karley Motschenbacher has become the leader of the team. She finished with 18 points in the game, all in the second half. She is spending most of her time at the point with Roberts at the shooting guard. The change has helped the team. Lewis turned in a dominating performance on the boards with 16 rebounds. Wt is still not shooting the ball well. Only 30% from the field. Wt was 5-15 on lay-ups. If we shoot like that against LCU, on Thursday, we are in trouble. It will take a better all-around game to beat LCU.

LCU at Wt. This will be the biggest game of the year. LCU is ranked #13 in the nation, Wt is unranked. LCU is the defending national champion. In conference play, Wt is 7-2 and LCU is 9-3. IF Wt wins it's hard to see that LCU would still have a chance at a regular-season title. After Wt plays LCU we have a very favorable schedule. Wt will need to play its best game of the season to come away with a victory. Lewis and Roberts appear to be back in form after Covid protocol. With Karley moving to point our offense has improved. If Wt can control the pace of the game and out rebound LCU Wt should win the game. Wt does not shoot the ball well. (about 35%) Rebounding will be key. Looking forward to a good game.

Defense wins championships. Two championship defenses were on display Thursday night in Canyon in front of 2,200 fans. This was the best defensive basketball I have seen in a long time. LCU had been shooting 44% from the field for the year. Wt held them to 24% and came away with a hard-fought 55-48 victory. The game was in doubt with 1:40 left on the clock and Wt made the free shots to close out the win. West Texas A & M's Madison Kast scored 11 points on five consecutive trips down the floor in the heart of the fourth quarter to key the victory. Wt has a different player step up every night. It is a true team effort. The win gives Wt the inside track to win the regular-season championship.

Yeah that was a great effort by the Womens Team. Good to see them in good position and take the conference tournament host away from LCU.

Men however were easily defeated and will probably need to luck out a conference tournament win for a playoff spot.

West Texas A&M nearly went wire-to-wire on Saturday afternoon as they led for all but 25 seconds in a 75-51 Lone Star Conference victory over the rival Greyhounds of Eastern New Mexico in front of over 1,100 fans on Hall of Champions Weekend at the First United Bank Center in Canyon.

Haylie Janssens led the way offensively for the Lady Buffs as the Moreno Valley, California product went 4-of-10 from the floor including 2-of-5 from deep and 4-of-6 from the stripe for a game-high 14 points to go along with six boards, one assist, and two steals. Jayla Burgess also finished in double-figures as the freshman went 5-of-6 from the field for 11 points with a team-high eight rebounds,

The Lady Buffs finished the afternoon going 28-of-69 (40.6%) from the field including 10-of-28 (35.7%) from behind the arc and 9-of-12 (75%) from the free-throw line with 52 rebounds (12 offensive, 40 defensives), 18 assists, 16 turnovers, five blocks, and eight steals.

Natalie Stice paced the ENMU offense as the Tahoka product went 4-of-19 from the floor and 2-of-10 from deep for a team-high 13 points to go along with six rebounds, two assists, and five steals. The Hounds finished the game going 17-of-69 (24.6%) from the field including 3-of-17 (17.6%) from behind the arc and 14-of-19 (73.7%) from the stripe with 43 rebounds, seven assists, 14 turnovers, one block and 10 steals.

FYI: Conference Tournament is back in Frisco this year. Only 1st round games are played on campus, 1-4 get byes into Frisco.

If WT men win out the regular season, they will have 25 D2 wins. They will make the playoffs regardless. Early season wins over Mesa, Daemon, and Moorhead add mightily to their SOS. At worst, I would expect WT to be a 6 seed. If they win the LSC tournament, they could be anywhere from the 1 to the 3 seed depending on other conference outcomes.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. Wt shot 24% from the field and got beat by St. Marys. I'm sure that will drop Wt out of the regional tournament unless we win the conference tournament.

Commerce women move into the #1 spot nationally for the first time in program history. Last time too, now that they move to D1 next year.

Yeah saw that score and was disappointed. Hopefully at least an LSC tournament final appearance and close loss to commerce might eek them in.

Looks like the Men have recovered and set up nicely at a run.

Wonder if the NCAA will give them the shaft at hosting a regional tournament if they stumble before that point?

They would probably need to lose 2 of the last 3 games and then get beat in their first game of the LSC to lose out on hosting - even then they might still host. They have 2 losses in region - everyone else in the top 8 has 4, 5, or 6 losses.

I was coming from the angle that they might get the shaft because they are leaving for D1.
