  • What is the incentive for Simon Fraser to reinstate football? The program would be set back further than it was. And there isn’t really anyone to play (full schedule) nearby without playing a bunch of D3/NAIA. It would just bleed money and they’d likely be worse. I hate seeing programs being cut, but this one was likely the right move.

    Humboldt is a different story…

Even for Humboldt, who do they play without their travel budget being outrageous? CWU, WOU...and then you fly to every other game.

Correct. I meant different story as far as competitiveness, etc. Travel would be nearly as outrageous, if not worse.

            • Much better chance that UMHB joins the Heartland. It's difficult to imagine a world where Hardin-Simmons would have the funds to be in Division 2, even in the Heartland. The enrollments of UMHB and HSU are down considerably, so neither is in a very good financial position, although UMHB has way more $$ to play with than HSU.

The Heartland has been dead and disbanded since 2019, unless that's your point?

                • Interesting the title of this thread which is probably 4 years old or something I kind of cracked up. One of the things that said what's the incentive of Simon Frazier playing D2 football. Here's my take on that school, there's no incentive to play American sports. The average about 250 people a game for men's hoops they're not very good in men or women's sports. They're pretty solid in women's track. If that floats your boat great, I love track but that doesn't keep an athletic department alive. Play Canadian sports and save us the trouble of everybody having to get a passport and being checked at the border every year for every single sport.

                    Must mean the Sooner Conference.

Apologies. Meant "Great American Conference". That's the one UMHB is exploring. Or at least they were in the fall.

The incentive is to play Canadian collegiate sports, provide football to prep players coming up. SFU brings very little to the league. They brag about being the only Canadian NCAA team and outside SFU athletes and coaches, here's how many people care: Zero.
