I learn something new every week…I thought it was originally like any other tournament and the team that plays the highest seed is by expectation the lower seed. So…CWU is number 7 and Bemidji 6. That was why I was so confident in saying CWU was going out there next week. Turns out I was so confident because I just didn’t know any better and tried to apply common sense to a situation where none is used. This was a big discussion topic last night on the Inside D2Football show.

The fact that it wasn’t this simple and it’s this nebulous void of non-seeded teams and whoever can pony enough cash to host justifies everything ASUPops said in post #150 about the D2 playoff setup.

Could you imagine that happening at the FBS level? it WOULDN'T.

The current CFP has the #1 playing the #4 team, and #2 plays #3. This is at the FBS level.

Highest seed always plays lowest seed, but the NCAA quit seeding below 4 in the D2 playoffs so they could shuffle teams around for travel purposes. It's not as straightforward as it used to be. Last time CWU made the playoffs, they got shifted to the Region 3 bracket (and subsequently got killed by NWMSU).

You have the 2022 NC's, ranked #3 knocked out in the 1st round by the #2 ranked team. That's a semi final or final match-up not a 1st round game. It's absolutely foolish and beyond any type of imagined or fabricated logic! I bet these same "Mensa" members become congress members 💀💀💀

At least at FBS you have the TOP 4 teams competing for the natty. Making it legit and relevant.

I don't think the not caring part has to do with the type of playoff system, .01% of the population likely even knows D2 football has a playoff at all. The system won't change the attendance.

Harder part is fans have basically less than a week from the time their team wins in the semis until the championship game. CWU could end up going to Western, to Bemidji, to Mines, to who knows, to McKinney with one week between each for fans to come up with travel plans and accommodations right before holidays that they might already have travel plans for. I'd imagine very few have it in their budget to make all of these games. Why not at least give 2 weeks between the semifinal game and final and hold the final after Christmas?

Polls are stupid and irrelevant for the most part. And the bottom line is you have to play someone tough at some point in the playoffs.

I don't think it is the best set up, but it is hard to dispute the eventual NC as being the best.
