42-14 CWU mid fourth and I think I can go to bed now. Got that big Angelo/CWU preview to write up.

Apparently the toe hitting the pylon counts as being in bounds for a TD? Midwestern gets a garbage time TD. 42-21 CWU.

That'll do it in Ellensburg. CWU handles Midwestern without too much drama. Probably saving all the drama for next week. It's encouraging to see McGill improving as a passer, because they're going to need all aspects of their offense next week.

I was at the game tonight. Wow CWU has come far since the San Diego game. McGill has really, really improved his passing with some big passes tonight, and so lethal on the ground. Central's offense was dominant. And MSU was so stupid for throwing those deep passes down the middle right at Tanner Volk, and that fake punt failure was hilarious. 3 interceptions for him!

Good to see wou lose too. Huge game next week for CWU at ASU

Tim, was that the first time in history that the Javelinas won at Western Oregon?

Not sure, I think so. They looked very focused, tough and really determined to win that game. I was impressed with their squad.

Take a look: https://stats.statbroadcast.com/broadcast/?id=531038 Click on QTR 3.

I think WT was more focused on how (and where) to wear pink on their gray uniforms this week than playing football. The result made them look ragged if not stupid. They claim attendance was 6100 tonight but it looked like about half that.

This was yet another embarrassment, at the hands of a .500 team using their backup QB. WT might win one more time this year, but that's it. It's time for a new coach.
I'm hearing THAT won't happen. Lynn will get more time.

Oddly enough, Kingsville was at WO last year too. Javelinas won that game 34-27.

I think I had said if he gets to 5 wins then that is improvement even though its below .500 at 5-6.

Kingsville and Midwestern should be winnable games for WT to get there.

Lose both of those games and you only have proved you found a way to improve enough to beat Eastern New Mexico.

If I were Lynn I would be asking the AD to go back to scheduling Adams State or equivalent for the first game of the season to at least get some confidence and momentum going.

Its tough to crawl out of 0-2 holes with confidence going into conference play.

If Lynn doesnt find a way to get to 7 wins in his third year then it would be reasonable to pull the plug and hire a coach with modern understanding of NIL and portal use.

I'm not so sure on that. If his only wins are against Sul Ross, ENMU, and WNMU, it's going to be a tough sell to sponsors and boosters. Even at the D2 level, there's a fair amount of cash involved. Hard to sell businesses on spending thousands on advertising in an empty stadium.

Now, more than ever, coaching decisions are business decisions. If WT is going to compete in football at the top of the conference, much less D2, it's going to take a whole lot of outside revenue. That revenue will be difficult to come by if it is perceived that mediocre results will get you by.

Granted, I haven't seen a WT game this year, so I'm flying in the dark. For those that have watched WT:

Do they have comparable talent to the rest of the conference?
Team speed - Is WT getting beat on the edges and deep frequently?
Line of scrimmage - Are linemen making tackles, or is it always a LB having to coming up?
Are there flashes of promise? As in "yeah we lost but we could be really good very soon".
Is WT scoring off of sustained drives, or some long-shot TD deals every now and then when the other team blew a coverage?

You guys that see the games, maybe you can fill in.

I'm glad I'm not the AD right now; some weighty decisions looming.

Remember McBroom and Wendler were going to keep Hughes around even after the Simon Frasier disaster until some of the WT supporters finally woke up in numbers to complained and they finally did it 8 days later.

Just my take Lynn has been a successful coach other places and showing improvement (albeit it very small) if they get to 5 wins would get him another year without too much b!tching from alumni and boosters.

Next year really needs to be the $hit or get off the pot year.

Even Hellen Keller can see that the lines on both sides need help.

So if they get 3-4 wins, what do you do if you're the AD?

If Kingsville plays the way they did at WOU, WT has zero chance to beat them. I think the final opportunity to win MAY be against MSU. The Buffs MIGHT manage a field goal attempt against Angelo.

Any above average high school QB can burn the WT secondary.
