Let me just say that there's a whole lot in the WT soup that doesn't have anything to do with coaching or money. You guys that think Lynn can't coach need to look at his past record. There's a LOT more to this - that football is the only sport on campus that doesn't win.

No. He’s looking ahead while his sizzle is still there. He moved pretty quickly in year one but is now raising some smoke. Lots of “only rumors” in the air. Not sure on Commerce comment. Don Carthel would get a lot of folks behind the program and I bet he’s got a few years left

I know this is blasphemy in these parts but I think the Carthel train has left the station permanently.

Colby and Nesbitt were a big part of their recruiting back in the day and Colby has yet to show he has adjusted to the new NIL and portal days on a consistent basis but this year is looking up.

It’s not blasphemy as you are probably right. It would take a lot to get Don to return.

Don Carthel was fired for lying to his supervisor and encouraging one of his student athletes to lie to protect him. It doesn't matter the the original offense was trivial and done in good faith. Lying to your boss will get you fired most places and using your position of authority to get someone else to lie for you will dang sure get you fired almost anywhere.

You guys really want him back? Don't you want someone with a little integrity leading your young men?

I think I had said if he gets to 5 wins then that is improvement even though its below .500 at 5-6.

Kingsville and Midwestern should be winnable games for WT to get there.

Lose both of those games and you only have proved you found a way to improve enough to beat Eastern New Mexico.

If I were Lynn I would be asking the AD to go back to scheduling Adams State or equivalent for the first game of the season to at least get some confidence and momentum going.

Its tough to crawl out of 0-2 holes with confidence going into conference play.

If Lynn doesnt find a way to get to 7 wins in his third year then it would be reasonable to pull the plug and hire a coach with modern understanding of NIL and portal use.

Don is a really, REALLY good guy, with a TON of integrity, AND the above is also true. Remember, personnel files, like medical files, are confidential. Anyone who is fired can go on a public rampage about how bad their former employer treated them (although Don didn't do this to any great extent), but personnel files are confidential. By law, an employer cannot release a personnel file to the public in order to present their side of a controversy.

We all have lapses in integrity. We all lie. Unfortunately, it can sometimes really bite you in the butt. I can say this, NO ONE at WT wanted to fire Don Carthel. ZILCHO. He put them in a corner with no way out. My guess is that Don would probably admit that today.

It was just a very unfortunate situation. I'll also add that Don would not be winning at WT right now. Things are different. Way different.

I don't think McCullough will be the coach at West Texas A&M University, a public university in Canyon, Texas but I could see that happening or being asked his interest. In my opinion, I don't think McCullough will be at UTPB in 2026, I think he's at FCS program. Although, I think McCullough with some resources for coaches and facilities would easily win a national championship at West Texas A&M University, a public university in Canyon, Texas

I agree. He was passed over for Lynn in the first place. I would like to see how he handles adversity and rebounds in recruiting and philosophy after losing a couple of QB's to graduation and injury.

The whole family made it a point to pound WT into oblivion once it became obvious that WT wasnt going to hire Colby after Don retired and then Colby made WT their B!tch during his time at commerce. Also McBroom and Wendler flipping him the finger at SFA when there was supposed to be some sort of reconciliatory handshake before the game when WT played SFA a few years ago and it never happened. Of course Ironic that McBroom is now there with Colby. Also Don isn't going to coach under a president who doesnt give a $hit about football regardless who the new AD is. It a moot point given his age and climate of college football now.

Not trying to sound like a douche, just saying the AD oversees all sports and not just football.

When I see Wendler at least most of the home games and works to get WT fully funded for football then I will give more of a pass.

Also remember the panhandle first and not until you are a junior plan.
