It seems like, long term, the conference would need to schedule OOC games or have schools schedule them before they do the NSIC scheduling. It would be much easier to find games with an open slate to work with

They have to be one of the only schools that doesn't brand themselves with the words "college" or "university." I'm sure there are others (though I guess, officially they are "Concordia University, St. Paul).
I think they are the only NSIC school in Minnesota I haven't been on the campus of, now that I think about it. Should probably change that soon.

Once MSU returns to form (which they seem to be doing in short order), I'd like to see them come play SDSU. It's funny that they both scheduled WOU this year.
I know it's a slim-to-none chance that would actually happen as there'd be no benefit to MSU aside from a payday, but it's something I want to see.

As for Comets, I believe they lumped it in to their move to Division II. Why? I don't know. Apparently, their mascot's name is Comet the Bear....

MSU on the other hand either faces a guaranteed loss, or an extremely hypothetical win that wouldn't count for much in the regional rankings. They'd get some glory for said extremely hypothetical win, which would be neat, but it's SDSU so it's not like that glory is going to translate into much anyway.Last edited by SW_Mustang; 09-13-2023, 03:57 PM.

Not that it really matters, I just think it's interesting that they dropped "University" from their branding. Maybe to not get confused with the Cobbers.

Thanks!

If MSU pulled it off it'd be huge. As we have seen and been noted, when schools pull off upsets of a higher division it translates into clicks and apps. Maybe not as many for a D2 beating an FCS champion, but no one is excited to go watch the Jacks beat up some school that is lower.
When the Gophers lost to both SD schools in different sports, it certainly didn't fire up the U of M faithful and if you read anything online, the sky was falling. To say the higher school gains anything is absolutely ridiculous.
I get that you dont like SDSU and that whole level, you've made that pretty clear, but now you just arent making sense.

Sounds easy enough, but Mustangs have been held to 16 or fewer points in the last 5 games of the WSC series (streak of 11 games of 20+ points before that).

People went nuts for that WOU game. It sold out. I live within walking distance of the stadium. The blowout was paraded around quite well, at least in my circles.
It's FCS and DII. It would be a footnote on ESPN at absolute best if MSU won. I doubt anyone would actually care outside of the fan bases, or at best the hardcore fans in their respective divisions. If wins over FCS teams aren't used in rankings, MSU has no real gain. When is the sky not falling in Gopherville?
I don't hate SDSU, I just don't get what the big deal is with them academically or athletically. The fanbase is pretty insufferable - not as bad as NDSU but still...
Anyway, I said my piece. Let's move on.Last edited by SW_Mustang; 09-13-2023, 07:51 PM.
