Hate to say it, but Mankato might be a little low at 36.5.

adding the spread makes it more interesting.
Some of these D2 point spreads might not be super accurate.
Yeah, I'm guessing if you went to your local bookie, it would look more like the lines you have suggested. The issue with Massey is that it is comprised of a few years of historical data. The biggest line change would be the SMSU at Wayne game. I would probably put Wayne as a 10 point favorite or so. I also think UMD should be a 10-12 point favorite over USF. The reason I added the spreads this week is because if you look at the pick 'em I don't think there is hardly any variation. The 7 games all have pretty heavy favorites this week.

I think this is a good idea..the spreads. Over the last few weeks there hasn't been more than 1-2 games that were decided by less than 10 points. On our NSIC Weekly, we speak to the spreads also..for the same reason..it just adds some color to the picking of the games and so forth.

I may be the only one, but I really enjoy watching teams from the NSIC play out of conference teams. Always fun to watch!

I think most are quite excited for it. Sans postseason, this is the first season I've followed where OOC games were a thing - so I'm loving it. I'll even get to take one in with MSU and WOU.

Quite the opposite, I think that almost everyone is excited about seeing some new teams. Getting Western Oregon to come to Mankato is outstanding.

This was the first time since 2011 that Winona State played a non conference game in the regular season and I'm sure it's the same thing for most schools in the NSIC.
Looking back to the early 2000's before the conference expanded WSU had games with South Dakota, North Dakota, North Dakota State, South Dakota State, Emporia State, Truman State, Michigan Tech, Western Missouri, Carson- Newman, and even some D3 WIAC schools.

As SMSU is playing Valpo this year for our OOC game - it made me curious as to our history against D1 opponents...

                1999 - UNI (L 15-51)
                1992 - Illinois State (L 12-51)
                1989 - Weber State (L 0-55)
                1983 - Weber State (L 21-33)

How have other NSIC schools faired? I know USF beat North Dakota that one time.

I know that the Mavs lost to FBS UTEP down there in 1988. They also lost to FCS UNI in the mid 1990s. Not sure how many other games they might have had.

For 2010 and 2011, SMSU and Northern State met in "nonconference" games. The last true nonconference game for the Mustangs was a 55-3 win over NAIA Black Hills State in 2009.

I wish MSU kept a history log online like SMSU does.

I've always been curious about D2 vs. FBS matchups. While not outright banned by the NCAA, they've effectively been legislated into obsolescence.

SMSU's last OOC opponent was Pitt Sate in the 2013 MWB, and their last in the regular season was BHSU in 2009

SMSU was listed as playing "Concordia University" in Minneapolis in 2011 which confused me a bit - but it was in fact CSP back when they used the Metrodome for their later home games. I know CSP used to be known as CU before a rebrand some years ago, but there are many Concordia's and the rest of the records state Concordia-St. Paul

1895 was a rough year for the Warriors, got shut out twice playing the Choir Boys.

Not to mention they lost to a bunch of nerds from the "Mediacal" school. Rough.

Those nerds should have helped us spell medical correctly.

I'm also really excited for the non-con slate. It's great to see. I did some digging and the Dragons certainly had a history of scheduling non-conference games. Here's how MSUM has done in some non-con games since 1919.

                                Current FCS Teams
                                • Vs. North Dakota: 1-15
                                • Vs. North Dakota State: 3-15-1
                                • Vs. South Dakota: 0-2
                                • Vs. South Dakota State: 1-3
                                • Vs. Illinois State: 0-1
                                • Vs. Northern Iowa: 0-1
                                • Vs. Central Arkansas: 0-2
                                Current DII Teams
                                • Vs. Nebraska-Kearney: 14-7
                                • Vs. Central State (OH): 0-1
                                Current DIII Teams
                                • Vs. Wisconsin-Stout: 5-1
                                • Vs. Wisconsin-Eau Claire: 1-2
                                • Vs. Wisconsin-Oshkosh: 1-0
                                Current NAIA Teams
