makes you realize how different the world is when small schools even decided to make football a priority

SMSU played Quantico Marine Base once - which is both awesome and odd given that they aren't an educational institution at all, they just fielded an amateur football team for 50-ish years.

People went nuts for that WOU game. It sold out. I live within walking distance of the stadium. The blowout was paraded around quite well, at least in my circles.
It's FCS and DII. It would be a footnote on ESPN at absolute best if MSU won. I doubt anyone would actually care outside of the fan bases, or at best the hardcore fans in their respective divisions. If wins over FCS teams aren't used in rankings, MSU has no real gain. When is the sky not falling in Gopherville?
I don't hate SDSU, I just don't get what the big deal is with them academically or athletically. The fanbase is pretty insufferable - not as bad as NDSU but sntill...
Anyway, I said my piece. Let's move on.

It's the same story in ND and almost all other FSC schools.
As I've said, many top NSIC teams would at worse finish top 3 or 5 in the Summit, but in football the MVFC is in a whole new world.
If Mankato upset SDSU it would likely bring a lot of praise an attention to the MSU fan base and maybe even get them engaged, along with the city (solid people enjoyed have told me that is the biggest hurdle). That type of W would bring tons of attention to MSU. Nationally, maybe not so much, but regionally, where it matters, it would. If SDSU were to lose they be chastised and everyone that follows FCS would never let them forget it.
If was a home opener for the defending Champs. they had same turnoutast year for UC Davis and Butler.
They arent NDSU, where the fans have become bored. Its a big fan base that was never great in football that is not (at least currently) at the top of their level. Again, we do the same at D2 while those about and below say "well, it's only d2"

Hate to say it, but Mankato might be a little low at 36.5.
adding the spread makes it more interesting.
Some of these D2 point spreads might not be super accurate.
I'm told 0-3 vs. Mary and an 0-3 start could begin the undoing, but thats just from the money folk sp who knows

I rag on them way too much on this board. I just find the fanbase super obnoxious. I've met several athletes and they're good people, but the program culture/fanbase/athletic administration is insanely annoying. It's therapeutic to let it out lol. If I have to hear one more rant about the real SDSU from a Jacks fan, my head might explode haha.
I just want college sports to be about winning. I get a hypothetical win over SDSU would get "exposure" (regionally, lol) but I don't want MSU to do anything that hinders their chance at a national championship. Winning the real prize is what matters most, not beating the big kid in a small town for a week of quasi-notoriety.
Anyway, back to D2.Last edited by SW_Mustang; 09-14-2023, 07:19 AM.

This site has history of teams at all divisions: https://college-football-results.com/ncaa_ii.htm. Just find your team on the landing page and click on them for history.
I stumbled across it a few years ago. I’m sure it’s not necessarily complete once you start going back 50+ years, but includes year by year game results on the right and the left side includes a summary of records by year….and if you scroll down far enough on the left side there are records against each opponent.Last edited by cougar1997; 09-15-2023, 05:46 AM.

I guess they did finish 65th in women's basketball a couple years ago, so that's cool.
(Sorry, I had too. Carry on)
