That's cool. I like those old records - the shifts in college sports (and especially in football) lead to some pretty interesting pairings in hindsight. I could sift through that stuff for hours.

The hilarious records against the now D3, NAIA, or even local high schools is always a good time.
makes you realize how different the world is when small schools even decided to make football a priority

Yeah, for sure. It seems like the older the teams, the crazier the pairings. I know the Gophers would play both Hamline and Shattuck in the same year way back when. The idea of them doing that now is hilarious.

SMSU played Quantico Marine Base once - which is both awesome and odd given that they aren't an educational institution at all, they just fielded an amateur football team for 50-ish years.

People went nuts for that WOU game. It sold out. I live within walking distance of the stadium. The blowout was paraded around quite well, at least in my circles.

It's FCS and DII. It would be a footnote on ESPN at absolute best if MSU won. I doubt anyone would actually care outside of the fan bases, or at best the hardcore fans in their respective divisions. If wins over FCS teams aren't used in rankings, MSU has no real gain. When is the sky not falling in Gopherville?

I don't hate SDSU, I just don't get what the big deal is with them academically or athletically. The fanbase is pretty insufferable - not as bad as NDSU but sntill...

Anyway, I said my piece. Let's move on.
SDSU ought to be embarrassed for scheduling WOU and Drake who lost to NAIA Northwestern. Jacks think they're big fish and they are...In a very small pond. When they were campaigning to go D1 they said they would not need any state aid in athletics, they lied. The taxpayer supplements their athletic budget by almost 46% even worse at USD. It's the same story in ND and almost all other FSC schools.

Agreed! Another language altogether. Since gambling has become increasingly legal sports talk has incorporated more gambling odds and it perverts the way you talk about sports. It's like investment banking mixed with sports. Strange. Not a fan in the sense that we aren't really talking about pure sports strategy x's and o's or talent, but the probability of winning against the odds.

Perhaps but no tax dollars can be used for scholarships in South Dakota, not to mention these big campaigns are financed by private donors. They don't need to be embarrassed. They'd love to get a pay day for playing another Big XII team or whoever, but when in a crunch you schedule a glorified practice. No different than what the SEC does. You can be annoyed as rivals, but it is what it is. As D2 we schedule d3 and NAIA schools in hoops, no different.

As I've said, many top NSIC teams would at worse finish top 3 or 5 in the Summit, but in football the MVFC is in a whole new world.

If Mankato upset SDSU it would likely bring a lot of praise an attention to the MSU fan base and maybe even get them engaged, along with the city (solid people enjoyed have told me that is the biggest hurdle). That type of W would bring tons of attention to MSU. Nationally, maybe not so much, but regionally, where it matters, it would. If SDSU were to lose they be chastised and everyone that follows FCS would never let them forget it.

If was a home opener for the defending Champs. they had same turnoutast year for UC Davis and Butler.

They arent NDSU, where the fans have become bored. Its a big fan base that was never great in football that is not (at least currently) at the top of their level. Again, we do the same at D2 while those about and below say "well, it's only d2"

Hate to say it, but Mankato might be a little low at 36.5.

adding the spread makes it more interesting.
Some of these D2 point spreads might not be super accurate.

Northern cannot possibly be a -14...they've lost two years in a row to Mary and haven't looked all that great to start, despite it being two, at minimum, top 25 teams.

I'm told 0-3 vs. Mary and an 0-3 start could begin the undoing, but thats just from the money folk sp who knows

Ouch - but that doesn't surprise me. Anything to avoid spending on education in this state - but that's a rabbit hole not for this board.

I rag on them way too much on this board. I just find the fanbase super obnoxious. I've met several athletes and they're good people, but the program culture/fanbase/athletic administration is insanely annoying. It's therapeutic to let it out lol. If I have to hear one more rant about the real SDSU from a Jacks fan, my head might explode haha.

I just want college sports to be about winning. I get a hypothetical win over SDSU would get "exposure" (regionally, lol) but I don't want MSU to do anything that hinders their chance at a national championship. Winning the real prize is what matters most, not beating the big kid in a small town for a week of quasi-notoriety.

                  Anyway, back to D2.

I think Northern will win but not sure they cover. I think they have the potential to cover but just haven’t been able to put it all together yet.

I[d be shocked the Wolves didn't wallop Mary. The locker room is saying enough is enough. Time to restore order.

This site has history of teams at all divisions: https://college-football-results.com/ncaa_ii.htm. Just find your team on the landing page and click on them for history.

I stumbled across it a few years ago. I’m sure it’s not necessarily complete once you start going back 50+ years, but includes year by year game results on the right and the left side includes a summary of records by year….and if you scroll down far enough on the left side there are records against each opponent.

It's a good thing SDSU finished 134th in D1 football last year or else we could say the same for them too!

I guess they did finish 65th in women's basketball a couple years ago, so that's cool.

(Sorry, I had too. Carry on)

Not sure I'm a fan of the data ranking schools based on wins from D3 or NAIA lol but it is good someone is at least trying!
