Especially with schools that are not fully funded on scholarships. Even with full funding, it can be a tough call I imagine for a coach who could have to reward a transfer with lots of scholarship dollars. At that point, it may be where one kid gets the money allocated for possibly two H.S. recruits or current players. Not a position I would want to be in, but it is the reality now.

The scholarship $ potentially needed to land these guys was a consideration/gamble/chance I hadn’t considered.
Nebraska coach Matt Rhule was asked if he was looking for a portal QB. He said a good QB would cost between 1.5 and 2 million dollars. The NIL is just a way for the rich schools to get richer. It's like good men's FB and BB players are professional in college before they before they declare for the draft without a degree.

This might not belong on this thread, but do we know if all the NSIC teams are fully funded for football? Can the NSIC require it if you want to be a member or continued membership?

Crazy especially compared to what Brock Purdy's salary is for this season.

I promise I’m not making fun, I’m just sharing what made me laugh…

But I say, I say, I read this sentence as Foghorn Leghorn. Thank you for that 🙂

Most are no fully funded. I would say Mankato, Auggie, Winona, Sioux Falls, and Moorhead are there or close, the new AD at Duluth, stated they will be at 30.

NSU is also fully funded. Which drives some of the frustration for 5-6 seasons..

AUGIE may not be fully funded 5 or 6 years ago they were at 30

Forgot Canyon Baur, SDSU WR. Excellent slot WR Knee injury mid-season.
Also forgot Robinson out of Utah.

Since we are talking scholarships, does the NSIC still have a total max scholarships that an athletic department can offer? I know a few years ago, there was talk of a max that was below what the NCAA could offer at D-II if you were fully funded for all sports.

If that is still in place, that will affect whether or not a school is fully funded for football as it would pull monies from other sports.

And if that is the case, that is truly terrible. When you have to impose limits that are under the national threshold, it means you have schools that don’t belong. And now the NSIC added another.

I believe a while back the NSIC had a 30 scholarship max limit (or was it 28?), which was less than the DII limit of 36. A few years ago they lifted the conference limit rule so now the full 36 are allowed.

Yep, I knew they now allow the max of 36 for football. What I am wondering is if the limit for TOTAL scholarships across the athletic department is still in place for NSIC sports? As an example, for men's sports the NSIC allows 60 scholarships, and you give 36 for football, you are only allowed 24 for the rest of your NSIC men's sports (baseball, basketball, track, wrestling, etc.).

NSIC does away with scholarship restrictions, but can UMD and rest of the league offer the max? - Duluth News Tribune | News, weather, and sports from Duluth, Minnesota
