The kid they did redshirt was Alan Glover Jr. He's a big boy -- about 6'5" and 230 lbs. He's pretty ripped. I think Tort would love him. He was a walk-on last season. He looks like he could be a nasty TE or DE.

Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View PostI know the Edwards era very well. That would be my 7-man rotation. But, yes, the point guard is a tough call. You had DeWayne Anthony, Wes Layton, Aaron Faulkner, etc. Keenan Holmes also was the West POY as, if I recall correctly, a junior. Gary had some monsters under the basket. Remember Shatee Cooks? One player from that era who had tremendous upside was Badou Kane. Brian Brennan was another very strong player. Fannar was a wrecking ball, too. To bad he left for XMAS that last season and never came back.
I don't know how he found all those guys. Don't want to know, either. LOL. One year their first (8) guys were all D1 transfers. Whole rotation.
Those were physically-imposing teams. The 2002 team won the regional with literally 7 guys. I think by the NCAAs they were only dressing eight and seven played. That team could have beat the 2014-15 team in my opinion. They had 7 studs -- basically 7 starters.
In that hypothetical team, I'd have started:
Mims and Beckles under the basket, and Horton, Evans and Anthony at guard. Menifee and McIntosh off the bench. Sharing the ball may have been an issue. Evans was one of the great, big game, three-point shooters in school history. He was a legit 6'6" shooting guard. Mims had NBA talent and size -- and literally scared people. Beckles was that prototype D2 big man ... he was the Daddy Ugbede build but who could shoot from outside and play defense. He was mead dude, too.
I was kicking it around today on whom I would select to an IUP men's and women's all-time team. Starting five and maybe say one trey specialist and one defensive specialist type. I guess I would need time to mull it over. I did come up with Mims at center and Webb at power forward for the men. Just too many wings and guards for me to narrow it down. A lot of good ways to go.
For the women's side you have to start with Jahzinga Tracey. Cindy Davies likely at one of the post spots.
Who would you guys select?

Re: Iup basketball
Incoming PG Bryce Radford made first-team All-WV. He had some remarkable games and hit some giant walk-offs in big games. Excellent deep shot. I don't see him taking a redshirt. I assume Joe breaks him in as Armoni's backup. He's going to draw Dante comparison's immediately. Very similar players.
Ethan Porterfield had a stellar season. He's already a legit 6'8" and can shoot from all over. He'll need to put some weight on prior to next winter. I watched a lot of film on him ... he's going to be real special down the road. These guys typically fill out during their first 1-2 years. He has the body frame to be a Sleva type by his junior year. He's far ahead of where Sleva was at the same age. He has to develop the rest.
KJ Rhodes is a little more difficult to see current film. Remember he's already a year removed from high school and played this past year at IMG Academy. He's a legit 6'5" shooting guard and, like Armoni was, is more physically ready to go at this level (as of now). The only knock I've heard on him is on the defensive end ... something Joe can coach.
I don't see Joe giving any of them a redshirt year.
I see the Bryce and Porterfield combo very similar to when Dante and Cobo arrived. Luckily Joe can take his time a bit more with both and work them in slowly.
Very strong class so far.

I think you need to add some other names to an All-Edwards team such as Wes Layton and Ayubb Ali and maybe even Keenan Holmes. But maybe I'm just drawing a blank on some of them as I was not overly engaged in the early years of the Edwards regime as I was freshly out of college and rather busy with other things.
