VULCANS advance to the KCAC on Wednesday by finishing the ROCK 72-55. ALSTON leads with 24 the last 4 of which were scary slams!! If you have a chance catch the last 3 minutes. SRU couldn't hit the barn, broad side or not, shooting 33.9 FG% versus CAL 46.9. Another shot at the C'HAWKS coming up.

I knew they'd play again. I really just thought it would be on Sunday and not Wednesday.

IUP better find a way to not get curbstomped the first 10 minutes again. They aren't making (3) 16+ point comebacks on the same team in the same season.

It's going to be a fun one. The KCAC should be packed.

It is a bit of a puzzle to me where his game was hiding before this season. He got to play all of 8 mpg in '19-'20 and now after one phenomenal year the VULCANS will likely lose him to the TP by Thursday or Friday. Sure hope not but have to be realistic.

He turned in to He-Man during the Covid lost season. He was kind of just a normal 6'6" guy as a freshman. I bet he put on 30 pounds of muscle.

His pro career could actually be at TE. Imagine DBs trying to tackle him.

Watched 2nd half of cal sru game. Big fan of boswell. Has best understanding of the game of anyone on the court. If you think Alston is a force inside, you should see him in an up and down game. Saw cal pre season scrimmage against west liberty and he was incredible.

This past Saturday wasn't friendly. The oddsmaker went just 5-3 with straight winners. But, nobody saw Gannon beating California coming. Shepherd lost at Mansfield. That probably shouldn't be a surprise by now as the Rams tend to choke on the road. And, of course, Slippery Rock got smacked in the MAC. But, going 5-3 will at least keep you in the black for the day. Here are tonight's picks for you gambling degenerates:


Lock Haven at Shippensburg - The Bald Eagles hit the road tonight with the opposite of momentum -- fresh off a 35-point beatdown 48 hours ago in Millersville. In fact, Lock Haven enters tonight having lost three straight -- the most recent two being of the blowout variety. On paper, Shippensburg got the easiest draw in Round 1. The Bald Eagles went a dismal 11-15 on the season. They're on a losing streak and away from home. But, Lock Haven's only signature win all season was against these very Red Raiders. Oddly, Shippensburg has had its struggles in this series. The Red Raiders are just 4-3 in the past 7 meetings. Neither team is overly deep. Shippensburg is playing close to Iron Man basketball right now. If the Red Raiders stay out of foul trouble, they shouldn't have many problems. But, if any starters have to sit for extended periods, well, it may get interesting. Ship -11

Slippery Rock at California - As it proved a week ago, the Rock is a tough match-up for the Vulcans. SRU has the speed and big guards to keep up, and also the muscle and size underneath to bang around the glass. This will be each teams' 9th game in 20 days. Young men or not, those legs have to be getting a little wobbly. Both teams are -- perhaps not too surprising considering the wear and tear -- coming off losses in Erie. With 11 defeats, SRU has to win the tournament this week to make the big dance. A loss by the Vulcans would likely end their season. Both meetings this year were close -- with each winning on the road. Expect Round 3 to be close, too. Rock star guard Frankie Hughes is the key. When he was shut down in the first game, Cal won. When he went off in the second game, SRU won. The house has lost three Cal games in a row. Streaks end. Vulcans -4

Shepherd at West Chester - Shepherd was a tough draw in Round 1. Well, maybe. At just 12-16, one could argue they are a heavy road dog tonight. But, they've lost a lot of tight games. And, on occasion, they can light up the scoreboard. So, which version will West Chester see tonight? Will they get the Shepherd team that blew out first-place Millersville two weeks ago? Or, will they get the Shepherd team that just got beat up by last-place Mansfield? These two split the regular season series with each winning at home. Being at home is great news for WCU, because Shepherd turns in to a pumpkin on the road -- going just 3-10 outside of Shepherdstown this year. West Chester -8

Gannon at Pitt-Johnstown - The Mountain Cats led the West at the half-way point of the conference season. Then, as they say, all hell broke loose in Johnstown. UPJ is is just 3-4 in its past 7 games. Gannon, on the other hand, is hot -- fresh off one of the biggest wins of the Kelvin Jefferson era this past Saturday against California. The Knights are also getting healthier. Point guard Braden Olsen returned against the Vulcans, scoring 14 points in 21 minutes to go along with 5 assists. Alonde LeGrand also returned, giving Gannon some much-needed depth. Gannon has also been a thorn to UPJ this year. The two split the series. The Knights won in Erie, 67-66, and previously lost in Johnstown, 81-79. Two games decided by 3 total points. Will UPJ have a hangover after Saturday's loss in Indiana? Can Gannon keep riding the momentum? Round 3 will be another tight one. But, the home team finds a way. UPJ -4
