    Re: Calu wbb '18-'19

JESS STROM sort of game against an overmatched CLARION team. VULCANS turned over the GE 25 times, including 18 steals, leading to 41 pts. Everyone played (4 freshmen totaled 55 minutes) and nearly everyone scored. Good game to rest and prepare for SRU and BORO. Those two are critical in the run up to the league and regional tournaments.

Well hosting is out of the question. This was the first 1 pt loss since Jan '16 vs ESU. Hard to say it but I don't see how they've won 18 games. If SEAIRRA BARRETT doesn't get her 20+ the chances of winning are not good. Look for them to be a dangerous opponent in the PSAC and probably in the REGIONALS, but likely won't get past the 2nd round. A lot of talented players are simply not getting it done especially on offense.

Curious event today... an apparently really talented young women committed to @CalUofPAWBB. 6'1" G/F KENDRA MCPEEK of Binghamton( NY) HS and Montverde Academy of Florida tweeted her decision and was followed by a tweet on the VULCANS page with a picture of KM standing with Coaches STROM and TETZLAW. Not unusual except it's happening at a not great time for the team and is bound to have some players looking over their shoulder. Not unusual except that she apparently is 6'1" G which is common in D1 but pretty rare in D2. Not unusual except several scouting reports view her as a good D1 prospect and she still had a good deal of time to wait to decide. Don't get me wrong, I'll be excited if she's here in the fall, but I can't shake the feeling that there's more to this than meets the eye.

Looks like the player's post was on Jan 28. Not sure when a player posts can be controlled.

If the commitment came in the fall, would the same players be looking over their shoulder? Doesn't the team/coach have to restock players at all positions?

UPJ has four six-footers on their squad.

Schools don't tweet verbals. That means she's signed.

It's the coaches job to constantly sign the best available player. If that hurts feelings ... so be it.

Everyone has six footers, but usually as far as I've seen NOT at guard. At least not at this level

Nice win vs GU at the A-DOME. VULCANS seemed to turn up the pressure beyond it's usual level and the LADY KNIGHTS (???) had no answer. BARRETT had another double double with 33 and 13. Next up UPJ at HAMER HALL and MC in Erie before the game of the year vs IUP C HAWKS at home a week from Saturday.

Yep ... Cal built a 47-13 lead late in the first half before Gannon hit a late three. GU had more turnovers (19) in the first half than points (16). Gannon can play good teams tough -- road wins at Boro and Seton Hill, but had no answer for Cal's pressure.

Another W for VULCANS WBB that is both satisfying and frustrating. Versus a MC team that gave them all they could handle at CAL, the team played a classic JESS STROM first half totally dominating the LAKERS 51-24. The second half was a nearly complete reversal with MC finishing 32-25. So what looks like a comfortable 20 pt win is actually another example of the Jekyll/Hyde nature of this year's squad. Hopefully they'll have their A game ready for Saturday's visit from the C HAWKS.

Yes, BOTH satisfying and frustrating for sure! They often seem to get into a funk in the second half, and allow a lesser team
back into the game. This makes my stomach churn.

Always good to take away the W vs the C'HAWKS. APPLEBY is puzzling. All everything against the rest of the world, VULCANS seem to be her kryptonite. 9 pts and foul out at home, 6 pts and foul out today. Also for a very good 3 pt shooting team, IUP took only 6 preferring to feed GRIGGS who was awesome but left everyone else standing around. CALU will rarely shoot 3s or FTs like today but in the chess match of coaches, JS always seems to come up with some twist that TM doesn't react well to. Curious to see how this affects the regional picture.
