No dislikes as far as I know. Really thought he'd stay at Ship. We'll see where he ends up. With a roster that will be turning over a lot next season, he was virtually guaranteed a lot of playing time at Ship. Guess the grass is always greener somewhere else.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post
He has to go to the CIAA and complete the extremely rare Atlantic Region Triple Crown (he'd probably be the first and last).
Joking aside did his teammates like him?
Five in five is a total joke but he's found a way.
Did his brother retire? They used to be a combo deal.

He hasn't found that green grass yet, apparently.Originally posted by Ship69 View Post

He's a nice player but far from a star. He could be a solid role player for any number of contending teams.
And, hell, he may be up to 6'11" by next year based on his collegiate growth chart.
But, he was one of the last Ship players to leave. Perhaps all the others leaving played a part in his decision. Or, he just likes to collect team apparel.

Doubt the others leaving had much influence on his decision. His situation wasn't similar to theirs.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

No chance he's staying in the bus leagues. Odd it took him so long to enter. I'd peg Shoats landing at a low-major.Originally posted by Ship69 View Post
Wow. Yeah, that Shoats kid is the real deal. Watching a kid like that develop only to lose him has to drive coaches nuts.
Joe mildly recruited Zuchelli out of high school. Very odd to see two players leave UPJ.

It's been a strange year. Fite has a great culture at Ship, and I don't think you'd see him have four guys in the portal in a typical year. But the pandemic left him with an unbalanced roster that got exposed this year. The guys who left weren't going to see a lot of court time next season. Ship probably won't be contending next year, but if Fite can pick up a decent transfer or two to add to Frank and some talented incoming frosh they might at least get back to respectability. The guy up at Lock Haven, a Ship alum, has put together some decent teams at a place not everyone would consider basketball heaven. If I had an opening at a more well-known D2 school, he'd be a guy I'd look at.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

Mitchel , Dunn , Crespo , Recchia , Allen , Whippen , and Ball left as a junior academically . Donley not returning. Holsople graduated .Losing 9 from last October’s roster ? Sources mentioned 3 offensive sets? The recruits should realize Frank is option 1 thru 3 ! Ship had a good run but not sure what future culture has in store . As an old student / alum have my fingers crossed .

Donley didn't play at all. Dunn, Crespo and Recchia likely would have seen limited action this season.. Recchia was already playing as a grad student. Whippen has changed schools every year since he's been in college. Holsopple, as you mentioned, graduated after four years as a role player at Ship and showed the kind of team loyalty you don't often see these days. That was an 8-20 team last year, and there certainly were going to be some changes made. The team was just physically overwhelmed in several games last season. Some of the players who left undoubtedly saw the writing on the wall and left for other destinations. Good luck to them. Don't know if Frank was option 1 through 3, but he certainly was their best option last season by far. The two freshman kids recruited so far just might be good future options. Gannon University just won our conference and the region, and now have lost their head coach and most of their roster. This is basketball in the transfer portal era. It's not always pretty, but it it what it is. This is the first year it's really had much effect at Ship.Originally posted by Ship76 View PostMitchel , Dunn , Crespo , Recchia , Allen , Whippen , and Ball left as a junior academically . Obviously, most of these guys will just land at other programs within the region. Several will get no offers and retire. A handful will go up to D1 (likely on the low end of D1).
The signings should start to pick up here soon.
A lot of these teams are going to need to wear name tags on opening night this November.

For an early start on the Ship roster, I have Markus Frank, Donovan Hill, Trey Martin, Denzel Figueroa, and Timmy Conner returning from last year's players along with redshirts Jackson Boone and Drew Sleva. Incoming frosh will include 6-5 guard Jaydon Smith, a Mid-Penn Conference first-teamer from Carlisle, and David Dorsey III, a 6-6 combo forward and key player on a Frederick, Md., High School teams that went 28-2 his junior year and 24-4 while winning the Maryland Class 4A championship his senior year. I expect Coach Fite to definitely take a look at the portal as well as possibly grab someone else from the high school ranks.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post
