Another good effort on both sides of the floor for the ESU Women tonight. They pulled away from St. Thomas Aquinas in the 3rd quarter and their defense kept the Spartans from making a comeback. ESU is 4-1 with one non-conference game left.

ESU finishes non-conference play at 5-1 after a 75-56 rout at Lincoln. So G Brie Droege found her shooting touch, going 8-11 from the floor, while hauling down 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. She led ESU with 17 points. 4 Warriors scored in double digits and the team shot over 50% from the floor. Freshman F Emma Thornton gave the Warriors and early spark, and finished with 13 pints. A good tuneup with Seton Hill coming to Koehler Fieldhouse this weekend. Interestingly enough, Seton Hill will be playing a game on Friday morning, so their PSAC opener is the 2nd game of a back-to-back.

Playing the second half of a back-to-back, Seton Hill Women outlast ESU 78-70. ESU got off to a hot start, leading 20-8 midway through the 1st quarter. Eventually Helene Cowan warmed up for the Griffins and scored 12 points in the 1st to keep her team in the game. Mia Kalich had 11 points but 19 rebounds and Seton Hill outrebounded ESU 55-34. Tough finish for ESU, but this team has more top to bottom talent than last year's team. They'll be a tough out because of their defense.

ESU puts together a great 4th quarter defensive effort on the road today at Clarion. Clarion shot 2-13 in the 4th quarter and 9-30 in the 2nd half. The Golden Eagles were without 2 of their top 3 scorers and 2 starters, but they gave the Warriors fits for 3 quarters. Clarion was hitting outside shots early but couldn't find the mark in the final frame as ESU gets their 1st conference win of the season. The 78-73 win saw ESU hit their season high in points, while holding Clarion well under their 80+ points per game average. Brie Droege and Lacie Kringe each poured in 16 points as 5 Warriors scored 10 or more. ESU returns home for back-to-back Western Division showdowns against Pitt-Johnstown and Indiana (Pa).

ESU holds off Pitt-Johnstown 70-66 to gain their 2nd conference win of the season. Brie Droege poured in 19 points, as 3 Warriors scored 10 or more. Another good defensive effort held UPJ below their season average. Indiana(Pa) comes on tomorrow looking for a weekend sweep.

IUP played well below potential this weekend but as expected got two road wins to move to 10-0. Like last year, the three best teams in the PSAC are all in the West with Seton Hill coming on strong after a slow start and Gannon being Gannon.

The Gannon/IUP games should be great. Personally I think IUP is better, but Gannon has experience and is the top team until somebody knocks them off.

Lost in the wash right before the holidays was Cal UP dispatching 10-0 and nationally ranked Malone by 11. Cal UP is tough to beat at home, but just goes to show the depth of the PSAC west.

I knew that odd slow start wouldn't last.

I wonder if they had injury issues early on?

Regardless, those losses count. They are going to have a very short leash the rest of the way. They can only take a couple more losses to stay in NCAA conversations.
