Whether they win it all this year or not (which I think they will), it's pretty hard to argue that any objective fan on here would prefer Winona's run to this run NWMSU has been on the past however many years. At least, it seems fairly obvious to me.

Biggest thing I'll be curious to see is if Ben leaves (if he doesn't get a D1 gig after winning it this year, maybe he just never will...my gut says he's gone with all of the D1 jobs opening up right now) and what that looks like for the Bearcats moving forward. Maybe they'll keep their dynasty rolling along the way NDSU has kept their football program winning despite each coaching change, but it will be interesting to see where the Bearcats are at in 2-3 years if McCollum moves on.

Yeah...I thought the same when I saw this thread. Both are incredible feats but this Northwest run makes thus not even a debate.

If you want a true debate you can argue about the better team (one of many endless, pointless sports arguing topics) to which I'd take any of those Winona squads, atleast over this years Bearcats.

At the same time, for NWMSU to achieve this level of excellence across multiple player eras is remarkable in its own right. This isn't just riding one great recruiting class to success. They could be broken down into 2 or 3 different eras in this run.
I don't even know how this is comparable, NWMSU's run is far more impressive. More championships and more sustained success. Almost no drop-off whatsoever. If he is smart, he leaves after this year, because there probably isn't another Trevor Hudgins or Justin Pitts walking through the door anytime soon, those are once in a lifetime players and he had them each for 8 years. I'm also biased because I think UCM should've beaten Winona in the final four game in 06-07. I believe they were a fumbled inbounds pass away from advancing if I remember correctly.

That NWMSU team with Hudgins, Witthus, and Hawkins smokes those Winona teams.

The Central Region has been great for a long time. Another dynasty worth mentioning, Metro State from 1999 - 2004: National titles in 2000 and 2002, plus a close loss in the title game in 2004. They remained a very strong program for another decade with additional Elite 8 appearances, but the RMAC moved out of the Central Region at some point.

I would not be one bit afraid to stack John Smith, Jonte Flowers, Quincy Henderson, David Zellman, Zack Malvik and the replacements that followed against any of them. The mentioned five has to be one of the best assembled D2 starting casts of all time.

Agreed. Would be a heck of a 7 game series but Winona takes the series win.

You can't do what D1 does and dangle a big pot of TV money in front of me. Why should I vote to make the change you want?
How about this idea then? The NCAA div II could put the MIAA and NSIC into different regions for a while at least.

Again, if I represent a team from a weaker region, I don't see the that change helping me either. However, you might get more support for some sort of region rotation because all regions have weaker conferences that might like a change to a different region.

The NCAA expressly does not take into account conference strength when determining region alignment.
