Big week this week. Hopefully they can get one back against Lake Erie

We posted at the same time. ^^^ Lake Erie is tough. They beat Walsh yesterday and won at Rex Pyles earlier. We have to go up there and play better than we did. Trevecca's record doesn't show it, but they look better and more competitive than last year. And we haven't played well at KWC since Kline's senior season.

I was unable to see the game this afternoon. I just read the writeup. Apparently we played well other than the final stretch. We haven't done well down there the past three years. It is a road win with a team that has a 12-9 record. I realize some things have snowballed for KWC, but they still have some good road wins in this conference. The good thing about the new G-MAC videos is that they are all archived games so I will try and watch. We do let things get too hairy when we get big leads.

Any one watch and have thoughts? Two out of three on some long trips is good, but I thought we weren't good up at Lake Erie and we struggled down at Trevecca (but won). Zimm must have had them ready to go to start the game to jump out to a 19-5 lead early and lead 49-32 at half. To get 49 against them at their place is good because they still have athletes and players and have always played us tough on defense home or away.

        Big week coming up.

Am I reading that score correctly?

Yep. Total collapse by the Battlers. Zimm pulled all the starters early in the second half. Not sure what was up, but none of them seemed like they wanted to be there, let alone play a basketball game.

I didn't see it, but the score tells it all. What looked promising two weeks ago has all but disappeared now. I was going to come in for alumni day two weeks from now but more efforts like that and I am not wasting my money to drive in to watch a lack of pride. I don't know, but I am guessing we are dealing with some headcases and issues. The seniors, for the most part, have been about as bad as I've seen. Sanders has been completely disappointing. Mitchell is up and down in his performances. I see we sent one senior home on a bus ticket. Another senior at 6'7" and 300 pounds appears to do nothing.

We have 3 quality players to start the year......Davis, Bocook and Willis. Unfortunately Willis went down hard in the first five minutes of the Malone game with what looked to be a pretty bad injury. You take his 16 ppg out and the fact that we have one less quality player for opposing teams to defend, and it doesn't bode well. And that is no excuse for that type of performance on Saturday. No excuse at all. But now teams can really concentrate on defending and helping on Mike Davis.

I honestly think Matt Johnson has to play more. He was a good player over here in Maryland on the Hammond team with Willis. He scored 56 points in his first JV game this year against a juco and was immediately pulled up. He appears to do well when presented with minutes. I realize I don't see practice and what not. But it seems when the lights come on for games, he is ready. Dortch has good upside and if some of the seniors can't perform, then go with him and get experience. I know Harper tore his MCL, but he was always a role player of sorts. Sanders goes 1 for 9 in 20 minutes. Johnson goes 5 of 8 for 12 points in 18 minutes. Mills has potential as a freshman point guard, but there is no question he is going to have to change his body in the weight room this off-season.

I was shocked when I seen the box score. Almost like the team never showed up. Couple weeks ago it looked like this team might have a chance at an atlarge bid, now they need to focus on making the conference tournament

Yeah I was the same way.

Willis is apparently back now as they beat Urbana pretty bad. Coach played a lot of subs the last 10 minutes but AB was up pretty big most of the game. Willis only played 21 minutes but that will help. The one good thing is the three main players are back next season. We are going to need some size to go with them.

The basketball team will look to clinch a spot in the G-MAC tournament this week. We are 3 games ahead of Cedarville and have already beat them once. A tiebreaker goes to head-to-head and then how each team did against schools in the G-MAC based on standings. We have beat ODU and KWC once too. If it comes down to us and Lake Erie, we lose out. I think one win of the last four does it. Sam Sanders didn't play Saturday?

The men's cross-country team had the highest GPA in the country....4 guys with a 4.0 GPA.

AB grad Jeff Burkhammer currently has his West Florida team at 22-3 and looks pretty good to make the NCAA tournament barring a collapse. He would have made it last year if it wasn't for a mid-year injury to his best player. His former teammate at AB Steve Carney went to his game in Georgia this past week.

I just looked at box scores. Does any one know why we had three starters not play in the two games this week?

Willis, Bocook and Mills did not play against ODU or Cedarville.

                          Probably rules violations. Not injured.

A-B grad Jeff Burkhammer just led his West Florida squad to the Gulf South Conference Tournament Title. The Argos finish with a 28-3 record this season....by far the best in their school history and not even close. Jeff's might have a real shot at hosting the South region down there as his team was #2 in the regional rankings this week. Morehouse lost in the semis in their conference tournament. UWF went 3-0 this week. It was the first time UWF had ever been in the tournament championship game and with that said the first time they won a tournament title.

Jeff has taught those kids down there how to win in only 3 seasons. He took over a program in 2015 that had previous records of 7-21 and 7-20 in the two seasons prior to him taking over. UWF went 20-9 last season in year two despite his team losing their leading scorer at the start of February. He wins wherever he goes and that is no lie. He was 134-75 in seven seasons at Armstrong State. He had four seasons of 20+ wins and four NCAA tournament appearances there in Savannah. He took over a down program at Lander too and went 63-46 in his final four seasons. Many might remember he was associate head coach at Marshall University where they went 70-44 with him on the bench. He recruited and coached Tamar Slay while at MU. Slay went on to play for the Nets.

Any one that knows Jeff knows that he is an even better person! Proud of this A-B grad! I hope his team gets to host the region. If not, they will be at Morehouse in Atlanta playing in the NCAA. Jeff is in the AB Hall of Fame and still holds the career record for assists at the school.
