71-58 win. We held a a 4-senior/1 junior lineup to 27 points in the second half on their home floor. Bocook was off tonight too. He has to play better on the offensive end.

Willis is a player. Davis is too when he figures some things out, but he was better in the second half. Jones is a big difference in the lineup because of his defense. He was very good the second half. I like our point guards. We have some serious toughnesses but talent this year. I thought Mike Mitchell did some good stuff. Our offense has to be smoother, but you could tell they got more comfortable in the second half.

Sanders was in clothes on the bench but supporting the team. I guess an injury.

This is a quick turn-around to have to play at 1 PM after a late night game. Lake Superior State beat Kentucky Wesleyan 96-66. LSSU is another experienced team. I hate we can't watch it. We have a long way to go, but this is a nice start.

Looks like we crapped the bed at about the 11:00 mark of the second half. We lose 79-63. Defense and offense did not look good based on stats. I didn't sit in front of live stats all day. Give credit to LSSU. Good team last year and bringing a lot back. Steve does a good job as coach up there. We got one win and probably an education today. We got to learn quick. There is not much experience playing together. Hopefully we go down there Wednesday and win. Glenville tends to dictate the game to us down there. We need to turn the tables.

What has worked in the past doesn't necessarily work in the present. OHDH.

Even with the loss Sunday, I already like where this team is headed compared to last year. A couple young guys are playing major minutes and it will only help for the future. Noticed Sam Sanders wasn't in the box score for both games. If he is injured, hopefully it isn't too severe. With Jones and Mills playing the bulk of the minutes this weekend, it is good to have his experience to help push those guys along. Can always use shooters though and Sanders had a couple games last year where he shot at a high percentage. I don't know much about Glenville but from what was said earlier, it seems they have had our number the last few years.

Basketball talent is far improved. They just need to pick things up. More game experience followed by practices will cure that. Credit LSSU for good play but we shot poorly Sunday. Late game Sat that ended at 10:00 followed by early game Sun at 1:00. Legs sometimes aren't always there early in the season for a quick turnaround.

I can't watch tomorrow or follow along. It is a critical game for both teams as Glenville dropped two this weekend at home. Dye is an AB alum who is in the AB HOF. He started 4 years for Zimmerman and really puts a lot into this game. Nunn and Dunmyer are the top key players to stop. We have the personnel to do that.

Good win the other night against Glenville State. Another tough test this weekend versus Bowie State. Any idea why Jones didn't play against Glenville State?

Another quality OOC win yesterday. I didn't get to watch, but read the recap. We shot unconscious in the first half and really came to play. To build up a 20 point lead against Bowie is impressive. It is natural to tail off in the second half like that. Willis can be really deadly shooting the ball and Mike Davis is a bad man. But Malik Bocook had a Richard Lemon type of stat line yesterday that should not go unnoticed. 11 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists, 4 blocks and 1 turnover. Good to see big Mike have a good game too. I haven't watched the last two but I am assuming Anthony Mills got hurt against Glenville as he started but only played 14 minutes and was in street clothes it appeared from the highlights yesterday.

Jones started two games up in Detroit and apparently didn't feel his heart was in it....whatever that means. He quit from what i understood. Didn't want to practice over breaks. If we get Sanders and Mills back, then I am not too concerned. I don't mean this to be critical in any way. I think our coaching staff does a great job up there. I do think we do try and convince multi-talented guys to come up there and then after a month or two, it is "not glamorous" enough for some. Most turn out well. Let's be honest there. But lately, we do have some guys that come and go real quick. I do think we have to recruit a few that actually have a desire to want to be there. For instance, I saw some talented guys at the elite camps. But you could tell talking to some of the talent, that the school was too small, rural, etc. But then you have guys that they aren't worried about that. We recruit at an A+ level. That isn't a problem for a program that is not fully-funded. I just think some of these guys look at AB as a third option and think they are better than AB. It is extremely hard to read every kid when you recruit them though. The others guys sticking it out are doing great. Our depth and rotation is just a little thin.

Lake Superior beat Findlay on Friday. I didn't hear much about it. Not surprised by that. LSSU is a solid program. But I saw this morning that Cedarville knocked off LSSU. Impressive win for Pat Estep. I have to admit that i was surprised by that, but happy for Cedarville and the conference.

Great win for Findlay in football. They dominated Shepherd in the second half. Shepherd has been no slouch.

I just read this morning about Osborne down at KWC. Sorry to hear that and hope he returns. I enjoy listening to him. Being a head coach in today's society is tough.

Another great win on Saturday for this team as Bowie will win some games this year. I hate that Jones quit, but shouldn't he have known what to expect? He was starting as a freshman on what looks to be a pretty solid team thus far. Watkins played pretty well the last two games and we will need him to continue until Sanders and Mills come back. Have you heard anything on either of them?

Brandon willis is playing exceptionally well and Mike Davis looks to be getting more comfortable, the dunk was insane. It was a nice write up on Willis getting player of the week and they are spot on with there being reasons to be excited in Philippi.

I am from WV (born and raised). I always here from people how the WV D2 schools should offer more WV kids. I don't buy that theory any more. Well, we have and they don't come. Or, we offer and sign two good ones and one leaves after one month and the other leaves after starting two games on a team that clearly shows promise. It seems the Ohio kids or kids from metro areas come up there and do pretty well. A few don't but most do. Richard Lemon came from inner-city Philadelphia, did well for four years, got his degree. Malcolm came from right outside of DC, 4 years, did well, graduated, averaging 21 ppg in Spain. Thylas came from inner-city Chicago, 3 years, did well, graduated in 3 years with a degree in psychology and is doing very well for himself. I actually believe Murphy got up there, played open gym with, saw how good Willis and Davis were and figured he wasn't going to play so he is gone in a month. I don't understand why two kids would just give up a $30,000 scholarship. I have trouble understanding what the mindset is there. It isn't the coaches fault. What more could they do?

I was very pleased to see Davis and Willis at the end of this interview said that they wanted to win the Glenville game for coach. They took some pride that we had been losing lately to Glenville. I am sure Coach Zimmerman has to be happy to hear that.

I watched replay yesterday. It was less than impressive play. Willis was really off. Mike and Malik were not for the most part. It is a place that we have had a hard time winning at over the years so you have to be happy with a road win, and they will win games. CU did beat West Lib down there last year. On a good note, we have beaten four teams (3 on the road) that we lost to early on last season. We will have to play better at Malone on Thursday. They are coming off a good win over WV State. WVSU had just beaten Fairmont State and came into the game 4-1. Malone will beat us if we play like we did Saturday.

One key stat I picked up:

                                6'7"/215 pound freshman Parker Dortch....in 13 minutes.....4 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists and 1 turnover.
                                6'5" senior Chavez Harper.....in 13 minutes.....2 points, 2 rebounds, 4 fouls and 4 turnovers to 0 assists.

This was the second game Harper had too many turnovers. He had 4 against Bowie in only ten minutes. Dortch has good upside. He might have to play more and go through any possible mistakes. But 8 boards and 3 blocks in only 13 minutes is too good to sit too long. Malone has some serious shooters so we are going to have to defend the perimeter like we use to. We are going to have to extend the man so that we are making them start their offense further from the basket.

We start this season by playing 7 of the first eight on the road. If we could get these next three on the road, then we are setting up nicely. It all starts with Malone, a team we lost to on the road last year. At home, we blew them out.
