The one school in the NSIC where rumors are swirling that they would go D1 is Augustana. Now without looking, I can say that their enrollment of 2000 students is one of the smaller ones in the conference. USF is smaller, not sure who else would be.

Pretty sure we're the smallest at around 1500. UIU is probably on par USF and Augie as far as on-campus enrollment BUT their total enrollment is inflated by online programs to about 6000.

If you look back several years you'll see that the trend for "upward" moving schools is that they're almost exclusively private.

2. Minnesota Duluth
3. Pittsburg State
4. Valdosta State

Whats funny is 2 years ago Commerce wouldn't have made this list. I believe Commerce would need some Athletic Facility upgrades to make the jump.

They shouldn't be on the list now. There are so many factors to consider that most people don't understand.

You should put the enrollment next to each of those. Looks at Grand Valley's (and a few others) enrollment.

Except enrollment has nothing to do with what classification you are in.

If MSU would move "up" it would probably be at the cost of scholarship football. That gets a no vote from me.

Did not say that it did. In fact, if anything, more private schools make the jump in classifications.

It does from a financial perspective since most schools tax their students to make this happen. Larger student populations obviously help spread that burden out.

UNA moved up this year from the GSC to the ASUN conference (Big South - Football). I could see VSU moving up if they got an invitation from the SoCon. BTW, we'd be the third largest school in the conference. The recruiting would be phenomenal as we would be in the strongest conference in the southeast competing for Florida & Georgia FCS talent against only a handful of schools, Jacksonville University, Stetson University, Kennesaw State University & Mercer University.
