Have we ever gotten a satisfactory answer to why Peake’s gun was turned over to police by an assistant coach who allegedly got it from three players? I remember following this case a bit when it first happened and while Peake’s use of the gun was a clear case of self-defense the fact that his gun somehow got from him, to his teammates, to an assistant coach that was leaving the state rather than being there for the cops to see was always pretty odd. Between that and the hazing/sexual assault accusations I have to imagine another conference might be wary of picking up the NMSU basketball team.

My guess is it's the latter. Prime Real E$tate in the greater Research Triangle Park area.

      • I don't remember seeing the closure of this school mentioned and I'd never heard of it before until about two minutes ago. Clark's Summit University announced their closure earlier this year. D3 athletics and home of the Defenders.

        • Bismarck State officially to the NAIA Frontier. No mention of starting football, although they are right next to the stadium where Mary plays.

              • A program that's not closing but should. Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree, California. The Fighting Cacti Women's Volleyball team (Juco) have got to be the absolute worst WVB program in the country. I saw them play when I went to visit my sister earlier this month. I just wanted to see how bad they really are in person. I guess I like pain. LOL *They've also got the worst logo and mascot.

                Program began in 2021
2021: 1-6 (each loss was 0-3) and they actually won a game.
2022: 1-13 (lost every match 0-3) the only win was a forfeit.
                2023: 0-15 (lost every match 0-3).
2024: 0-17 (lost every match 0-3) with 3 matches to play which I'm 99.8% sure they'll lose by the same 0-3 score.

Update: They finished the 2024 season 0-20 without winning a single game, let alone a match. I don't know if I should laugh or cry? It's a very sad story.

Interesting. Any information as to why? Or what the new name would be?

Out of curiosity I looked up this team. I found some full length matches on Youtube. I have watched a little bit of a couple. This team looks like a bad high school team. Really bad mi****s are the norm. I wonder if they don't recruit and just have tryouts among their regular student body to field their team?

They might recruit a little, I still have the program if you can call it that (single page photocopy that was handed out) and they do have one player from Texas. But they only have seven players total on the team and the other six are from here in SoCal.

That's great, it looked like they were going to be left out and have to go the independent route.

Whittier Poets football is back, that's good news for the SCIAC. Hopefully Occidental will bring football back and get the conference back to an even eight teams for their pigskin endeavours.
