Their head coach leaving for another school in the same conference that went 1-11 this season is pretty crazy.

Marshall and Louisiana Tech are not in the same conference.

You’re right but I fail to see what that has to do with Marshall’s head coach taking the same job at Southern Miss which is absolutely in the same conference as Marshall.

Crazy seems to be the norm these days, in all aspects of life. ;)

Congratulations on your first "senior moment". When you get older they'll increase in frequency, I know from first hand experience. Now where did I put the car keys?

                • Sports Illustrated article from today, 12/16. Looks like the process of adding NIU football to the MW is still in the works.

                    Marshall let his contract expire.

                    • I've still been watching for college closures but it seems like few are announced between August/December - so I haven't noticed many. Here are some notes I did have:

-St. Augustine University in the CIAA recently lost accreditation - rather they were placed on probation and have two months to come up with evidence against the ruling. Accreditors found they resolved all of their issues except for finances. It is technically possible to continue without - but it's almost a guaranteed closure situation.

-NAIA CSU-Maritime will merge with San Luis Obispo in 2026. I saw some previous discussion when I did a search about this, but it was made official in November.

-Since I have the notes, Cornish Arts was recently acquired by DI Seattle University. Brendan Fraser's alma mater.

-And another bizarre merger - Penn State split their law school in two in 2014, and are remerging them 10 years later. Odd.

Where is Cal Maitime going to dock their big arsed ship? The city of San Luis Obispo and the campus are a few miles inland. The closest beach that I remember is Avila State beach, but the last time I was there it wasn't equipped for a ship to dock there, just boats. My guess is it'll be at Pismo Beach which is several miles away. Not near as cozy as it is now in Vallejo (pictured below).

                        • Hearing some reports the Ivy League is joining the FCS Playoffs next year.

Not sure how I feel about that.

Well they can't compete at the FBS level that is for sure. Problem is, there are a lot of other schools that should be FCS. And there are a number of FCS schools that shouldn't even be D1.

I'm all for it. All of the other Ivy League teams can play in the post season in their sports- why not football?

It's probably my most unpopular opinion - but I don't think FCS should exist at all. It seems to exist for DI schools who don't want to commit fully on football, and so the Dakota/Montana schools can pile on championships against those schools. Three of the conferences didn't participate in FCS playoffs and then there's the Pioneer...

The bulk of FCS would struggle against a quality DII team, IMO. We saw that last year with Ferris and Montana. SDSU blew out UIW by 40+, had had their hands full with Augustana's defense. It makes the tournament almost unwatchable.

I thought it was neat the Ivy League did their own thing. I don't think they add anything to the FCS playoffs besides a way for the midwestern farm schools to have a flex over them. Some of them are so desperate to be seen in the same vein already.
