I think they’re going to roll with Fields next season and possibly look to draft a QB the following year when the draft is in Pittsburgh.

Your comments about the franchise being stale are spot on. As I’m hearing people increasingly say, this is the worst time in the Pittsburgh sports scene since the 80’s. The Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins aren’t close to anything meaningful. Two of the three are just bad right now and while the Steelers made the playoffs…um, yeah. Pitt basketball and football are both average to down right now as well. Pitt volleyball was awesome, but couldn’t finish the job. Obviously Penn State had a great year in football and won national titles in volleyball and wresting (again), but State College isn’t any more the Pittsburgh market than it is the Philly market.
Fields would be better. He could have a Darnold like year not having to share the stage.

However the Eagles are proving your lines are the most important part of success. Allen and Burrow are good but they come up short because their one or both of their lines are not dominant. Although the Bungles were coming on strong at the end. They are my team to watch for next year in the AFC.

    • When Aaron Rodgers to the Steelers was a pipe dream, I hated the idea. Now it’s a real possibility and I want it so badly. It would be glorious. But none of this 10-7 or 9-8 nonsense. I want a full ARod renaissance and a great season or a complete descent into the abyss.

Two cancer WRs matched with a cancer QB.

        What could go wrong?

        It would be incredible radio.

        • Pickett dealt to the Browns.

Steelers may get to face off with Kenny after all.

I’m with you. I have zero interest in Aaron Rodgers. I think this is Fields’ job for the coming season, and I expect them to draft a QB next year when the draft is in Pittsburgh. If they want one this year, they’re going to have to trade up big time.

Fields is gone. He's going to the Jets.

              2 years and $40m

I wouldn’t be surprised if Pickens is traded.

I see that now. Well, two years in a row the Steelers have no QB1, or QB2, LOL. What a mess. I guess that means they’re going to bring in Rodgers because there’s no other viable option. He’s not really a Steelers/Rooney kind of guy, but what is that definition nowadays? I just have zero interest in this personally. Is the idea of him throwing to the combination of Pickens and Metcalf intriguing? Sure, but anyone who saw Rodgers play last year could see he’s nowhere near the guy he was when he was with the Packers.

How can upper management allow the Steelers to be in this situation at the most important position on the field? There’s no incumbent and no long-term plan. Maybe they’ll make a big move to move up in the draft and pick a QB, but that’s not realistic for a team with so many other needs at the same time. What a mess.

How bad is it in Yinzerburgh for someone to go run to the J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck? They are a dumpster fire of a franchise. The New Jimmy Hoffa Mausoleum is building of sadness due to both tenants.

The Jets went well above Fields’ rumored asking price. Steelers were never going to pay him that. And I’m sure Fields didn’t feel great about how last year played out and either didn’t get any assurance that he’d be the starter or didn’t trust it if he did. Can’t say I blame him in that regard.

The consensus is this draft stinks for QBs. So, they are taking the perceived 'bridge' route. Next year's draft projects to be much better (and is in Pittsburgh). So, that will be the QB draft.

Rumors from reliable media types say Rodgers wants 2 years and $90m. I'd dumpster dive it with a Gardner Minshew type for less than half of that tag. The Yinzers aren't winning a playoff game one way or another.

That said, Rodgers can 'want' anything. His market is drying up.

From an entertainment standpoint, it would get no better than bringing the Rodgers circus to town.

It's dark times in the city. The Steelers are average. Pitt stinks in football and basketball. The Pens stink. The Pirates at best may finish near .500.

The great thing about the Iggles winning the Super Bowl is nobody cares the Sixers and Flyers both suck. The Phillies should still be good but they are getting old so their window is beginning to close again.

The Phillies might be getting old, like we all are. But they are not old yet. They will get old in the next couple of years which is why they did not trade their minor league prospects. They realize that they need future starters to come up through the organization.

The report that is getting a ton of traction is that Fields wanted a guarantee he would be the starting QB. Tomlin and the Steelers wouldn't provide that to him as a long term option for them, so he went elsewhere. Which, hilariously, is no different than Kenny Pickett requesting a trade out of Pittsburgh because he was told there would be a QB competition, and then Tomlin turned around and told him that there wouldn't be.

One of those situations was met with, and still is met with, vitriol, hatred, and menace from the fans and local media (those who are supposed to be fair, objective, and professional). The other was met with positivity for Fields, given that he got more money and a good opportunity.

Stat lines were, if we are being totally objective, pretty similar between them both.

All that said... Kenny Pickett was not a good QB for the Steelers. But if you think that watching these situations unfold in back to back years that the local media ever covered him fairly, you are in complete denial.

I’m not losing sleep over either guy. I want the Steelers to win, but my life isn’t affected one iota if they do or not, so I’m honestly getting a kick out of the lunacy. They’ve botched this situation so badly starting when Ben got boo-boo face when they drafted Rudolph and they were scared to ever hurt his feelings again. They’ve literally made the wrong move at every turn since then. There’s no long term solution for them in 2025 so I am all in on Aaron Rodgers. I pray they get a deal done.
