Stonehill looked liked they could battle for a playoff spot. They seem to have a veteran group, and a running game that Bloom could not stop. I expected more from the DL and was more worried about the DBs. Bloom has 15 DBs on the roster and only 2 have college experience. 2021 recruiting class had 7 DBs. DB Pollard switched to WR because a previous shoulder injury apparently made tackling difficult.
The new offense didn't look good, and I miss the running game of old. The OL was weak opening holes, and 3 freshman rbs are just getting their feet wet. They are reportedly deep at rb, but the best back Gooden is coming off knee surgery and missed the spring and most of preseason. He had a few carries, but time will tell if he can come back during his 6th season. I wondered why veteran rb West wasn't in the mix, guess HC is going with his own recruits.
The passing game wasn't the answer. QB short armed a few receivers, 6 of whom never caught a pass in college. Where was Arrington, the leading receiver from 2019? I hate the short passing game; throw the ball down the field. The offense runs without a TE or FB, and didn't use their new HB position very well.
Bloom failed in all 3 phases of the game. Coaching was the 4th failure, starting with going for it on 4th down at their own 44 yard line to open the game. Play calling on offense was questionable.
This will be a year to see if they do get better as the season goes on. They only had 4 senior starters, and are working with 3 untouched recruiting classes and a new system and staff. I am willing to give them some time.
