  • As BoroLetterman1 teased, Edinboro DBs coach Diamond Weaver has taken the same position at FCS Albany.

I still like this hire very much. He seems to exude positivity and calm. I love the lack of coachspeak or faux energy. The last time Edinboro had a head coach with WPIAL connections was Denny Creehan from 1979-1984 - and not just WPIAL connections, from the Bob Palko tree. I like the PSAC knowledge and experience. I like the relationships he still has with his former IUP coaches. I also like the D2 knowledge and appreciation coming from New Haven. Fingers crossed that he buys a home in Edinboro, gets ingrained with the community, and can keep a coach or two from the current staff (fingers crossed for keeping Tony Papley). I'm not sounding the alarm like some who have access to McComb.

Keep in mind, too, this likely isn't an Edinboro thing. It's very common for a house-cleaning to go down during the HC transition. Often times, the new HC wants to hire his own staff -- not inherit the cast-aways from the prior regime.

Not to mention ... the vast majority of D2 assistants can't wait to no longer be D2 assistants. Build the resume and keep moving up. Most of them are making peanuts and have a second job. Putting in 60-some hours a week and making $40,000 isn't exactly smart business. But, it's the necessary evil if you want to stay in the game and elevate to greener pastures.

Current Openings that could affect PSAC:

          West Chester
          Lake Erie
          UVA-Wise

          Ohio Northern (D3)

Currently no FCS jobs open that could affect PSAC. Haven't heard of any PSAC coordinators leaving just yet either.
Off Coordinator job open in a PSAC East school.

I don't think I'd waste much time filling out the IUP application. Put it that way.

This is obviously a total formality.

So, is it posted? What do we think the timeframe is?

Officially, no idea. That department isn't exactly transparent.

But, they just signed a former Frank Cignetti Jr. QB and also a WR who played under him at Pitt. Safe to assume not a coincidence.

I don't know if Larry Wilson is officially still on the payroll. That could be a factor. Maybe he was hired at Clarion but his start date there isn't until his contract expires here. Who knows. I'm sure they are just held up in the dates.

As of just now, its not posted. IUP would have to do A LOT of policy bending and get several legal approvals from Harrisburg to offer a job vacancy to someone who isn't a qualified internal candidate. If an APSCUF coach who theoretically would want to be considered for that position wants to, they would have a strong grievance against IUP administration.

There were quite a few coaches in the industry that I know that applied for that position. I can say after looking at this hire, St. Vincent is not serious about contending in the PAC.

Most SWPA only know SVC as where the Steelers practice. St. Vincent is still an old school faith-based private college. Remember, they still have a seminary on campus. They are among the minority that still have a clergyman serve as president. Their deans make a comparable salary to PASSHE professors, so I doubt they pay enough to get a coach who could truly improve things.

The same guy who left TCNJ a month before the season started to take a high school gig?

                              • don't think this one was posted here but Edinboro DC Tony Papley is out. that could open up a few more departures from that side of the football from a portal standpoint. looks like it will be a total rebuild at Boro
