  • Now that I've finally got a working laptop after nearly a month and a half of foot dragging beyond my control, I've finally updated the original post to reflect all active 2024 schedule links and updated times for each non-conference game.

    • A future opportunity...

University of Rio Grande in Southeast Ohio (yes, and they pronounce it Rye-o Grand) is starting an NAIA football program. The coach they hired was the guy who was the coach at the bible college in Florida located in a shopping center that tried to start a football program. They made it 1 game.

I hate to be cynical (not really) because many of us went to Indiana University of Pennsylvania, California University of Pennsylvania, or Slippery Rock University; however, University of Rio Grande in Southeast Ohio? C'mon.

I googled their enrollment and came up with 4 different numbers ranging from ~800 to ~ 2300. Nevertheless, their website lists 28 intercollegiate sports teams. I wish them luck. Thanks for putting them on the map.

I spoke to them during Covid about a job opportunity. If I remember correctly they're a faith-based college with an affiliated community college under the same umbrella, so that may be why there's some conflicting numbers on enrollment.

Something tells me that would not have been a great opportunity.

I’m just waiting for the day you take a big job at IUP.

              :-)

Cold day in hell. Plus I'm way too happy at your second favorite campus.

So they implanted a Dr. Evil control chip on you!

The community college you're referring to is actually a public college affiliated with the Ohio Department of Higher Education (formerly the University System of Ohio), but the four-year Rio Grande University is private. It's a rather strange setup...

                    • Bob’s Discount Business School of Allegheny County will play the Oakland Clap for Credit Academy at Whatevertheycallit Field in the coming years.

Translation : Robert Morris agreed to bend over for Pitt for a paycheck.

I don't think Bobby Mo would win the PSAC.

They were getting some good players when they were able to have Joe Walton, John Banaszak, and Dan Radakovich impress dads with their 70s Steelers Super Bowl rings. The current coach (who played on those late 80s Miami teams) is a nice guy but can't seem to convince kids to play at a school where football is clearly #3. I saw Denny Creehan and AB come in and embarrass RMU to start the season - I'd love to see Edinboro do the same this September.

                          • Rio Grande was the school of the legendary 1950's hoopster Bevo Francis. I think they were a Chaminade type program

                            • Mercyhurst's schedule in their first season of FCS football is hilarious and weaker than most PSAC schedules.

So that's what Division One looks like? Mercyhurst is the classic example of the small fish in the big pond.
