Fairmont was and has been an average MEC team. They were 6-5 last year and finished 6th in the MEC. I wouldn't say they were a perceived good team, but a solid OOC opponent for Seton Hill. Last year Fairmont blew the doors off Seton Hill, so the result this year was certainly an improvement on that.

A little early in the year to start this conference superiority puffing the chest thing. A good MEC team will give a good PSAC team everything they can handle.

Only Seton Hill can get a second sideline warning (and a 15-yard penalty) while starting a potential game-winning drive.

SH had all the momentum in the world. That popped the balloon.

Overall, it was a good showing by PSAC West teams. Based on the first games, it seems the division might be very competitive. The big surprise is the poor showing by ESU.

Watched the whole thing on my phone at my son's football practice then finished up at home. What a surreal night. I texted a friend at Edinboro with the "Is this real life?" meme because that was not the game I was expecting. I was hoping Boro would just keep it close and come away without any key injuries.

Edinboro's efficiency was impressive. 29 points on just 273 yards of offense. Nico looked seasoned and professional out there. I joked that maybe Edinboro was playing Arch Manning instead. Boro's OL isn't heralded but they're very experienced - some have been starting since they were freshmen. Speaking of freshmen, both of Edinboro's kickers are true freshmen. As I mentioned, the D Line was great stifling ESU's running game. The DBs also did some great work limiting ESU's passing game, predictably their strength. Taking away the three largest receptions: 35, 30, and 26...they had just 92 yards passing.

I thought the play calling was great. The return of the classic red script Boro decal on the white helmet is great. Is it 2016 again?

ESU doesn't have much speed at WR this year -- and it was clear Edinboro knew it from the start.

I thought ESU had some very odd play calls in the final quarter. It seemed they were trying to get too cute. I also didn't understand why they kept calling so many QB runs when the clock was clearly not their friend. They were getting the QB beat up, wasting time and gaining 1-2 yards on most of them.

My guess is Edinboro isn't 'that' good and ESU isn't that bad. Just a hunch but the Warriors may have been reading the press clippings a bit too much and Edinboro just came out and clocked them.

Good night for the West. Seton Hill probably should have beat one of the perceived top MEC teams and obviously the Griffins aren't coming close to winning the PSAC. We'll see what the #LIT-AF boys do tomorrow.

It's just realism. The MEC has been hit hard, with Notre Dame closing and UNC-P leaving for the CC now that it has football. Charleston is a great program but the rest of the conference lags pretty far behind them.

Also, your information is not correct. Fairmont went 7-4 last year and finished tied for 3rd in the MEC. Fairmont, Glenville, and Frostburg are what make up the "good MEC" tier right now. Maybe one of them will step up their game.

I am watching the Gannon game. When Gannon scored its only touchdown. They went to kick the extra point, which was blocked. Why wasn’t Davenport allowed to return it for two points? It looked to me like they might have been able to do it.

I am pretty sure a blocked PAT is a dead ball, only a 2PC is a live ball.

I am catching bits and pieces of the Gannon game. Gannon down 21-6. They put together drives but can't put it in the endzone. Plus they've been hurt by turnovers, one of which was a 102 yd. pick six. Gannon down on the scoreboard but outgaining Davenport by a wide margin.

There are few things more infuriating in life than a Shepherd secondary.

I'm not giving up on a team after one half of football, but Shepherd looked really bad that first half. Thank God for that blocked FG return!

Shepherd's offense was a little better the second half, but if they don't fix that defense, wins are going to be very hard to come by. That looked like BAD defense today.

very bad. Defensive line was an embarrassment and that was supposed to be the strength of the whole defense. Gonna be a long year.
