The ESU Football roster has an intersting listing...Former Palmerton QB Matt Machalik entered the transfer portal in January, after his Freshman season at Lehigh. He was the 1st high school QB in PA to pass for 5,000 yards and run for 5,000 yards in his career. He'll certainly provide competition at the QB position. An interesting Spring ball season awaits!!!

Give this all the impact it deserves. Erby could be an elite D-II quarterback. He has a big arm, and this could end the recent spate of musical chairs at the position for Ship.Originally posted by Ship69 View Post
Ship needs all the help we can get.
I'm thinking Gunnels and Micucci swallowed really hard when this came down.
And there is another sleeper who has shown up on the Ship roster. Erby Weller played two years of baseball as an outfielder for the Raiders. He has now switched back to football, where he got 19 touchdowns out of 75 receptions in his last two seasons for Shippensburg High.Last edited by jrshooter; 01-27-2026, 08:26 AM.

Erby will be running for his life unless they can keep an o-line intact at Ship for more than a year, something they haven't been able to accomplish recently. You're not going to have much of an offense when you're constantly playing freshmen and sophs on the line.Originally posted by jrshooter View Post

I guess now we'll have to clarify between Alex Erby and Erby Weller. LOL. (I know you're referring to Alex here.)Originally posted by Ship69 View Post

I wonder if JayJay Jordan’s success at SRU encouraged more of the best performers down there to try transferring up and our coaches to give them more serious consideration.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View PostI follow recruiting and transfers closely.
One thing abundantly clear: I've never, ever seen so many D3 transfers coming to the PSAC.“No matter how badly things get blown apart, we will always plant flowers again.”

Walter Fletcher did well transferring from D3 to Edinboro then grad transferring to Ball State. Played several years in the CFL.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View PostI follow recruiting and transfers closely.

D3 schools generally have a much stronger sense of identity and are much better at selling what they have. Papa Joe may admit that Little Billy isn't D1 material, but St. Elsewhere College makes him think for the first time he can afford to send his kid to a private school. There's no rumor that St. Elsewhere College was the #1 party school in Playboy in the 70s or 80s. That ******* gym teacher of your youth didn't go to St. Elsewhere. In spite of his mediocre grades and GPA, St. Elsewhere discounts Little Billy's tuition like a Muslim display at Hobby Lobby. They must really want Little Billy if they're discounting tuition by $26,000 a year! Often it's presented in a 4 year offer so they're throwing over $100,000 at Little Billy! Then they check out McState University of Pennsylvania and Little Billy doesn't qualify for academic aid and the football scholarship is $3,000. They must not want him that much if they're not offering him the world.

Also, as has been discussed many times on this site, the small schools bring in athletes to push up enrollment. One of my grandsons had a cup of coffee at Geneva a few years back, and they must have had 120 kids on that roster. He was at tight end, and I think they probably had 9-10 players at that position alone. Didn't stop them from getting pounded by Frostburg, which was on the verge of going D2.Originally posted by Fightingscot82 View Post

"Muslim display at Hobby Lobby?" I'll give you an "A" for inventiveness if you came up with that one.
