  • Spring Ball is here!!!

Teams are working out, as Spring Ball is here. Give me one player on Offense and one on Defense that you are excited about this Spring.

I'm interested to see how RB Ajani Walker progresses from last year to this season.

DB Harold Hill IV was nicknamed "Trouble" last season (IYKYK). I want to see how he develops this Spring.

ESU is loaded with talent all over the roster, but I want to see the steps these 2 players take in Spring Ball this year...

All I have to say is that those six a.m. practices were brutal. I was only the equipment manager, and I hated those. I can only imagine what the players thought.

      For Shepherd:

Defensively, I'm excited about sophomore DT Kyvon Cutchin. Not entirely sure what happened last year, as I thought it would have been a bit of a breakout year for him. His true freshman season he really stood out as a DT, which is rare. Hoping last year injuries caught up to him and that's why he wasn't a regular starter.

Offensively, I've heard that Michael Hardway is coming back at QB so I would have said that new QB Jackson Sigler but I don't know how "open" the competition will be with a returning starter who finished with 7 straight wins. So I'll go with redshirt freshman RB Ian Mauldin. Had a very stellar high school career in Maryland and he seemed the most physically ready of the younger backs to contribute. Regardless of which QB gets the job, the running game will need to be what carries the team to a successful year.

Hard for me to be too excited about football at Ship at this point as we go into yet another season with virtually no senior presence on the team and a new coach coming in to boot. Here's hoping new coach Drew Gallardy can establish a culture that enables him to retain some players at Shippensburg. He's done a good job bringing in some players with a small time frame, but keeping them has been the problem. You're not going to beat the stronger teams in the PSAC or anywhere else with all freshmen and sophomores on the o-line. At this point I'd just settle for a competitive team on most Saturdays.

Trying to stay cautiously optimistic about Edinboro football. Somewhat similar to the situations at Bloom, Ship, etc. There's a new coach with an "interim" tag and he largely kept the previous coaching staff together, which helped mitigate transfer portal curiosity. Excited for year #2 of Nico as QB. An All-PSAC OL is also returning. Beyond that, looking forward to some freshmen getting opportunity to ball out before they transfer out.

Lackawanna has 2 former Bloom coaches with the addition of Will Blanden as DC along with HC Ross.

How is Hardway coming back? I thought he only had one year of eligibility left as a grad student?

As we've just seen in basketball ... it never expires.

Just keep appealing and you can play until you're 45.

Bloomsburg has yet to post a spring roster or details on its spring game. With that in mind

Offense: I’ll be waiting to see where the QB battle goes. Only one returnee, Tyler Gee, has any collegiate playing experience, and he took ~10 snaps in relief of KJ Riley last year. Is the job his, or will someone else win it away in spring ball? Alternatively, will the collective performance be so poor that Sheptock and co. hit the portal looking for an emergency QB transfer before fall?

Defense: For somewhat academic reasons, I’m curious to see what Garrett Garcia does this season. In terms of HS accolades and accomplishments, he was about the most decorated recruit BU has pulled in in quite some time, with the caveat that all of it came down at 2A with a powerhouse program in Southern Columbia. Through his first few years on campus he’s struggled with injuries, and been more adequate than awesome when he has seen the field. Is there another level, or is this the ceiling for a star from that level of HS competition in the PSAC? The back half of his career, starting with this season, should be an interesting test case provided he stays healthy.

Last practice reportedly April 1st and Spring game tentatively scheduled for April 3rd.

Had red shirt year at Bucknell. Got his undergrad degree in less than 4 years because all FCS and FBS require you to stay on campus during the summer . To do that...the NCAA requires you to take summer classes. Result.....he has 1 more year.
