Minnesota Duluth at Slippery Rock (+3.5) - The Bulldogs are walking into a ramped up Thursday night sea of drunken future gym teachers. Keep in mind this Duluth team was hammered by Ashland its last time out. Rock wins outright.

East Stroudsburg at Seton Hill (+13.5) - Denny says why score 50, if you can score 60.

Gannon (+21.5) at Davenport - The Boom Squad will be #LIT-AF. Unfortunately, after 60 minutes, they will have gotten lit up, AF.

Lock Haven at Shippensburg (+3.5) - The Birds will be dancin' after this one. Twitter be warned.

Grand Valley at Charleston (+17.5) - Looking back, this spread was a tad low. But, it's a long bus ride.

Ferris State at Pittsburg State (+7.5) - FSU leaves for the MAC following the win. But ... that's a tough place to play. Dawgs cover but not by a whole lot.

Virginia Union (+7.5) at Lenoir-Rhyne - Take the road dog.

Wayland Baptist (+7.5) at Sul Ross - Massive upset looming.

Wayland Baptist is an NAIA school. Sul Ross State is a D2 school which used to be D3.

Minnesota Duluth at Slippery Rock (+3.5) - this is going to be a really good game. Ultimately I think Duluth will be too much up front on both sides of the ball. that makes the difference as the game gets deep into the 2nd half

East Stroudsburg at Seton Hill (+13.5) - I don't think this will be close, ESU wins big

Gannon (+21.5) at Davenport - I think Gannon might be a little better than what we are thinking. they got the horses offensively to put up some points. DU wins but GU covers

Lock Haven at Shippensburg (+3.5) - interesting matchup here, we'll learn a little about both teams. Haven by 14

I always hate picking these early season games since it's often so reliant on a mix of last season's performance and historical data. Oh well, we're all at the same info disadvantage.

WEEK 1

Minnesota Duluth at Slippery Rock (+3.5) - This should be a good test of where The Rock is for 2026. A win or close loss might be a sign that this is more like '23 or '24. A bad loss would have me worrying about "only" finishing similarly to '25.

East Stroudsburg at Seton Hill (+13.5) - Seton Hill's exotic defense flummoxes an ESU passing attack that lost its starting QB and most of its WR production, but the Warriors adjust and run to victory. The clock churn keeps this in the 7-10 point range instead of 14+.

Gannon (+21.5) at Davenport - This is pretty juicy. Gannon was awful last year, but only lost to Davenport by nine. Is home field worth another two scores?

Lock Haven at Shippensburg (+3.5) - Bald Eagle football doesn't rebuild, it reloads.

Grand Valley at Charleston (+17.5) - I recently learned that Charleston's stadium seats 18,500, and that it once hosted a game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Pittsburgh Pirates (now Steelers). This fact will probably be more interesting than this game.

Ferris State at Pittsburg State (+7.5) - We are starting right with the good stuff. The Bulldogs get a TD and 2pter somewhere to make it an eight point win and just beat the spread.

Virginia Union (+7.5) at Lenoir-Rhyne - Five years ago I would have picked Lenoir-Rhyne over any CIAA school without hesitation, but these programs seem to be on opposite trajectories lately. Even if Union doesn't win, I like them to cover.

Wayland Baptist (+7.5) at Sul Ross - Middle of the pack NAIA is about on part with a bad D2 team. I'll take my chances on a cover.

Northwest Missouri at Texas A&M-Kingsville (+14.5)

UT-Permian Basin (+10.5) at UT-Rio Valley - This should be a nice test of how a top-25ish D2 team performs against a program that put together an okay, but not great, FCS team last year.

San Jose State (+38.5) at USC - The new clock rules, combined with a surge in go rate on fourth down, has really tamped down on the track meets from 10-15 years ago. It's lowered the ceiling just a bit on some of these bodybag game beatings. My guess is USC wins in the 28-31 range.

New Mexico State (+35.5) at Florida State - See above

Colgate at Fordham - I usually feel pretty good about my PSAC, D2, and FBS picks, but these FCS games were murder on my points last year.

Bucknell at Richmond - Bucknell could have won this if they hired Jim Clements.

Lehigh at Holy Cross - This should be a good game.
