Who would we even add that would add value? Do we really want to be a public university of 24,000 beating up on the likes of Finlandia, Hope, Adrian, Olivet, etc.?

The writing is on the wall. We can either invite the challenge or stay and try to recruit top tier athletes to compete against former D3s in podunk towns.
    100% agree.

Compared to the GLIAC, yes. But, since they're not in the same Super Region, it's almost a moot point. The GMAC hasn't gotten "over the hump" yet in SR1, but with the addition of Ashland, that could very well change.

You want GV to be where they have a better chance to win? That sounds very reasonable to me.

Fortunate for the GMAC that they don't compete with the GLIAC for playoff spots in football...

Straaaaaange. Wonder what the real reason for leaving the GLIAC could be. Guess we'll just never know.

The past eight winners of the GLVC's Commissioners Cup (top school with results from the GLVC's required sports: M/W basketball, M/W soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball) are six different schools - - USI, Bellarmine, USI, Rockhurst, UIndy, Drury, UIndy, Lewis. One public school. Before that, every winner from 2002-03 through 2011-12 was either NKU or SIUE - - neither of which are still D2. Both public schools.

The all-sports trophy in the GLVC has been all UIndy since 2011, but that's a harder one to gauge because not every school (like USI) sponsors the more obscure D2 sports like football, wrestling, lacrosse, swimming. Looking at the GLIAC site, it appears the all-sports trophy there has been #1 GVSU, #2 Ashland every single year since 2004-05, and that was because Ferris edged ASH by three points. It's been GV/ASH 1-2 in that every year since 1995-96, and for the most part, teams 3 through 5 have been Saginaw, Wayne and Ferris every year as well. Very little parity atop the GLIAC and primarily public schools.

Rumblings of what Jim? A new add? A new departure? A non football school starting up football?
