Oops. I had forgotten that Grand Valley played a night game at the time I posted it. But, it turns out they won anyway, so my previous comment kinda worked out that way...

Senior D end, Eskew chasing Frosh QB Fuller. MIAA 2018 what a year.

Yep, Refs were not the reason for the outcome of this game.

My take on it is this. Watching the game I was able to call a good chunk of NW plays before they happened. If I can do that, you know like hell that FH coaches are going to be able to read that. NW was very predictable and played conservative. Way too many plays starting behind scrimmage when you are struggling up front. Hays had 7-9 in the box almost all game, there was no stretching of the field or even loading up a side to get less in the box if you are going to try some plays between the tackles.

Also thought this was weird, all year NW has been using trick plays here and there. Didn't see that yesterday.

NW got beat yesterday, the Sun almost came out the next day (It was cloudy and rainy here.), and the world moved on. Young staff, the question is will they get out of their comfort zone? I think they need to add some spice to the playbook, add some wrinkles. Also, I've seen it a couple times already.... On 4th and 1... run the ball with your running backs. If you can't get 1 yard with Caldwell or Strayhorn then there is some serious issues. If the battle is happening and going to be contact, I'd rather a bigger running back have the ball than a smaller wr.

And if you're going to run it straight ahead with Caldwell on 3rd and short, put Wright under center, line Caldwell up 5 yards deep, give him a head of steam. Don't run the shotgun spread look.

I agree... the odds of getting one yard go way up playing power football with the backs. If you're concerned about them stacking the box and feel like the ball needs to go outside, then I think some kind of speed option with a good running quarterback and a back is a better option than running parallel to the line of scrimmage with a wideout. I suppose we're all Monday morning play callers, but I don't think anyone was happy with that call when it happened.

A couple of the student journalists posted some really nice photos in the Northwest Missourian article:

Click on photo in lower left. Nice shot of Fuller after his helmet came off.

If you wanted to go parallel to line of scrimmage a quick read option (KC Mahomes Style) would of been a good route to go.

Exactly. That's the play call I had in mind, and Braden is probably more likely to run than Mahomes. It's probably not even in the NW playbook, but if it is/was, I think it's a good play there.
