Certainly you can play a couple of money games and bring in $1 million some years, but you've got to have a solid base of $20 million in student tax income to make it work.

That's a breeze for Tarleton due to their enrollment. It's a breeze for ACU and ICW because they are private and can tax the heck out of a small enrollment.

It's not going to work out for East Texas. I predict they will ultimately either drop football to make the numbers work, or go back to Division 2. I wish them the best, though.
    Agreed.

Whats ironic about this statement is last season East Texas A&M beat Colby and SFA last season. He still contributes positively to the ETAM without being there.

Looks like both the WT mens and womens basketball teams have completely collapsed and both may not make the LSC conference tournament.

Whatever is going on there they better fix it fast.

I don’t follow basketball but it’s hard for me to believe both teams have collapsed because the new AD is allegedly mean and nasty.

Do you go to all of the games or watch online? Do you ever make it to practice?

            I do.

Brown's been starting 3 freshmen, a sophomore, and a junior guard (our best player). The junior hurt his hand at Tyler and is out, probably for the balance of the year. The team is playing very hard. It's not a "collapse." They lack a knock down guy from outside, consistent 3 point-shooting has been a problem. Tom Brown's record speaks for itself. It is stellar. I expect him to get a D1 gig next year. And that will have nothing to do with the new AD. Tom's been waiting for his youngest son to graduate from Amarillo High. That son (a D1er) would be the knock down shooter right now for the Buffs.

Tom's the best BB coach WT's ever had since I've been watching the Buffs, 1968 and very few missed home games and a couple hundred on the road, 56 years. Consider me an expert. Ha!

I didnt say a thing about the new AD. Its rare for both basketball teams at once to potentially miss the LSC tournament.

That makes sense why the mens team is struggling. Thanks for the clarification.

Agree on all counts. Tom will be the coach at SFA next season, I predict.

I wasn't implying that you blame the AD, but others have.

The women's team is a different story. One game they look great next game they lose by 20. ??? Player development. hmm?

Prock has a commitment from a 6'5 190 post next year. Oklahoma girl. She had offers from Minnesota, Oral Roberts, ACU, and several others. Going to be an Ag major. Wanted to attend Oklahoma State, but they didn't offer. WT Ag program won the day. She's a 20pt 10 Reb 3 block kid. It'll be fun to watch her.

Prock's post play has been spotty. The 5'10 transfer from St. Mary's has been not as good as expected. The 6'3 2nd yr kid, UTA transfer, is getting better but won't win you a championship. The 6'0 girl from Amarillo High is very talented very athletic, but she very much needs an off season in the weight room. PG transfer is best player on team. Kane needs to get her scoring up to 15 a game. The ACU and NT transfers have limitations. Team has not been a consistent scorer from the perimeter......and THAT is what today's inside outside game is all about.

Both squads need to finish strong. Several home games to end the regular season. They NEED to win those games starting tonight against Permian.

Yeah, I forgot that. Still, if Dad get's an offer at $325,000 a year for 4 years and a program with some good (for FCS) NIL money to offer, he'd be foolish to not take it. The ex-coach at SFA was making @ $425,000. Brown/Gove would kill it in the Southland.

I have followed WT BB since at least 1970 ,, they had a pretty good coach back in late 60s early 70s.. cant recall the name,, the coach after Eker was pretty good as well, WT made the NIT tournament and beat Texas Tech in Amarillo in 1980. The Eker years couple of really good years with Mo Cheeks, Dallas Smith and some other darn good players in a tough tough conference cracking the top 20 for a couple weeks after beating Louisville at Louisville,, and lost to number one Louisville by 1 pt year before. Durring Eker WT had it s largest home crowd ever at the Louisville game when WT was in the top 20,, I was at that game.. was great.. and the MVC was super tough in those days.
I do like Brown a lot ... great coach would be awesome if he could still be here next year but your prob right he will be moving up.

If McB offers Brown and he accepts, Dad and the boys go to Nacadoches. Mom and daughter stay for 1 year. They work it out.

My Dad spent 30 in the US Army. Separations happen.

Yep. Already having those discussions here because of fed employees being forced back to the office and possibly relocated.
