  • Texas Wesleyan moving up to NCAA D2

Does this put the final nail in the coffin for Western Oregon and Central Washington as affiliate members of the LSC?

  • #2
The LSC may not need Central Washington and Western Oregon any more but they are still good for the conference. With 12 teams in the conference the travel burden falls more on CWU and WOU as they still have to make 4 or 5 trips south every year. Having 9 LSC games in a 12 team conference means the full members will not have to make the trip north every year when one or both GNAC teams rotate off the schedule.

Good for the conference indeed and I doubt they're going anywhere anytime soon. No insider knowledge here, just a gut feeling and they're usually right for me.

Well since I havent pi$$sed off my pacific northwest friends in a week...

Either the LSC kicks them to the curb (likely) or the LSC keeps them and turns into a silo conference like the GAC (highly unlikely).

Only thing at this point that would not change this is if a current LSC team bolts to FCS (Angelo State?) or D3 (Sul Ross?)

Looks like we will see in a couple of years how "sure" some posters are about the WO and CW future.

I love them in the conference but that travel has to get old on both sides.

It is a financial hardship for LSC teams to keep WOU and Central Washington in the conference. Especially for schools like WNMU, ENMU, SRSU, & MSU.

I would think CWU could make the Jump to FCS and W. Oregon would save a lot of money by going NAIA.

Texas Wesleyan hasn't announced what conference they would move to yet, but the LSC seems like the obvious landing point for them. If/when they get added though, that would bring the LSC up to a whopping 20 members in 2028, which if I'm not mistaken would make it the largest conference in NCAA history up until now.

I'm curious to hear this boards thoughts, what do you all make of all the growth the LSC has experienced over the past decade? Are there any concerns about bloat or the quality of the incoming members? 19 or 20 across such a wide area at the D2 level seems crazy to me, but you all know this conference better than me, and if it's been sustainable so far and you have few complaints, who am I to judge.

20 teams with what, half of them having football? I think that this is like the Austro-Hungarian empire, sooner or later some damn fool thing in the Balkans will cause the powder keg to explode.

I'm opposed to any conference where it might be years before you can watch one of the teams play. Ten is the perfect size.

                  Also for Finchwidget ..

This all started when the Heartland conference went belly up and merged with the LSC in 2019.

The logical thing to do is give the non-football schools the boot and let them form their non football conference again.

Unfortunately I "dont think" that could happen unless a conference like the GSC dissolves and their remaining members get dispersed other places.

Let's stop that talk now. LOL

I think facilities wise, CWU is looking pretty good - we have put tens of millions into T/F facility, upgrades at Tomlinson Stadium (and more master plans show expansion there), our Nicholson Arena is phenomenal including more seating, improved fan experience, more locker rooms, weightrooms, meeting/offices and an indoor facility. Fundraising is up, schollys. All is good..............for D2. If we moved up, we'd battle Northern Colorado for the cellar. We just don't have the alumni base, business base and metropolitan base to compete with powerful FCS schools. I quote the great tsull when I say if your goal for FCS, mid-major D1 is to make March Madness once every 10 years for the TV money/exposure, then you're doing it wrong. For every Tarleton State who seems to be killing it right now 5 years after leaving D2, there's 10 more who are doing the opposite.

The only viable option for CWU and WOU if the LSC ends their affiliation would be the RMAC. I don't think there's much of a desire from the RMAC to add the two west coast schools.

The GSC has 12 full-time members, with four sponsoring football. As an "all-sports" league, the GSC might not be in bad shape, presuming all four of the football schools stay in the GSC. As it stands now, the likely D2-to-FCS candidates from the four football schools are Valdosta and West Florida, so I think the GSC can survive with 10 schools in all non-football sports.

If tsull sees this you are going to be told real quick to stay in your lane and keep your opinions to yourself. Haha.

This is an interesting article that should pi$$ everyone off. Texas Wesleyan to the LSC and offers no longer extended to the PNW schools.

Worth noting that the LSC currently has a silo in baseball.
