Good to know. I am watching our outgoing guys purely out of curiosity, so I'll continue to update.

Just didn't want to clog the discussion with outbound traffic if it wasn't the intent of the thread.

The big one I was watching - Donald Austin commits to Idaho State. I believe this was a PWO offer.

No chance they go to a QB by committee look. Only way Walljasper isnt on the field next season is if he is injured or its a blowout.

Started and offered originally as PWO—but after 2 ISU Running backs jumped in the portal; it became a scholarship.
Possible Reason for 2 ISU RB jumping in the portal:

2023 Idaho State offensive yards average per game:
Passing Yards 337—. Season: 507 passing attempts
Rushing Yards 60—. Season: only 118 carries by RB=2.9 average per carry. Over 100 rushing carries by QBs

Gotcha, thanks for the update. He was originally offered a PWO - that's what I was going off of.

I had him going to MSUM, so I was a bit surprised to see he picked Idaho State - but now it makes sense.

Northern State offered to Zach Jorgenson, who was a PWO at Minnesota. He was a WR there but could easily switch to another position. Was a dual threat QB with us here in Fairmont

Just an offer, but SMSU offered a sophomore QB in the portal from Minot, Cole Hansen...significant given QB coach Zac Cunha's history with the previous MSU regime.

As fans, we clearly feel a little hurt (in the general sense of the term) when a player chooses to leave our team/school, because of our emotional connection to said school. There are SO MANY reasons for wanting to transfer, other than just chasing a D1 dream. Personally, and I know I’m an idiot..ha, I transferred because of my then girlfriend. Some kids want to play. Some were lied to by the coaches. Some want to win more than 1-3 games per year. Some want to get out of the climate. Some have family reasons. Some do it for academic reasons…on and on. And certainly, some are chasing the dream. And others just want that recruiting attention again!

College coaches are now more like ‘real world’ managers than ever before. You can put a ton of time and resources into finding a candidate to fill your open position (recruiting), and then developing them (training, etc) only to see them leave for another job. Scholarships are year to year contracts.
                        good post.

I think we all acceot there are many reasons they enter the portal.

it is important to remember that 60% who enter the portal never play again. The most common thing is a kid is unhappy, transfers, goes to new school and either quits or doesn't even show up. That is more common that a kid who portals, transfers and contributes

interesting choice for him given he was guaranteed 20 carries a game in Marshall - hope it works out for him. he was a good player for us.

I wonder if SMSU offered him now too. I think they did before he went to Minnesota

I always assumed he would play baseball when my kid played against him in HS football and baseball. He was a good SS and pitcher

Interesting is a good word for it. Maybe it’s a full ride and that’s the determining factor?
