Staunch can't be happy despite Cal cutting his paychecks.

Now 47-18 at the half. BORO living a shooting nightmare, FG-7/37, 3PT-2/15 and FT 2/2. Outrebounded 31-13. What does a coach say ???

VULCANS cooled down a bit in the second half and for the first time in my memory 14 players got at least 3 minutes in an easy 88-62 win. Five players, Boswell 15, Pegram 14, Collins 13, Palek 12 and Alston 10, spread out the scoring. Rebounding margin of 62-35 led to second chance pts plus 23 which basically was the game.
Season making game in about 48 hrs in Johnstown. Hope some of this play can carry over.

                            Notes:

                            * Edinboro and Clarion have started the walk down the Green Mile. Now (3) games out of the last tournament spot, things aren't looking good in McComb Field House or Tippin Gymnasium. Neither is mathematically out yet. But, they are getting close.

                            * Kutztown is currently the first team out in the East. Lock Haven, currently in the 6th and final spot, is currently red hot -- winners of 3 straight. The Golden Bears have lost 7 in a row, but, somehow, still have a shot to make the mini-dance. One more loss, however, is likely the iceberg.

                            * Gannon is dealing with a roster mess. If PG Olsen is out for a couple weeks, which is possible, it's going to get rough for the Knights.

                            • Make-up Monday - Part 3

Mansfield at Bloomsburg - Mounties are playing really well. But, any faint hopes to make the Top 6 require Mansfield to run the table. Just a guess, the whole East is hoping they lose this game.

Clarion at Slippery Rock - SRU finally got a win today. They can make some noise the next two weeks.

Shippensburg at West Chester - Raiders on thin NCAA ice.

Shepherd at Lock Haven - Bald Eagles are red hot.

Cal at UPJ - Doesn't get much bigger.

Gannon at Edinboro - Win or go home for the alma mater of Trey Staunch.

                              • This past Saturday was nearly a perfect day on the picks. 'Nearly', of course, thanks to Shippensburg losing at Lock Haven. But, 7-1 makes for a good afternoon. While we had a pretty easy lineup (betting-wise) 48 hours ago, things get much more difficult tonight. Make-Up Monday -- Part 3.

Mansfield at Bloomsburg - The Mounties are the most-feared 4-19 team in the country -- and, you can surely suspect most coaches in the East are praying they don't make the PSAC Tournament. Mansfield is three games out of the last spot in the East. So, ... still barely alive mathematically. The path ahead isn't easy, but with the way they can play (at times), there's a shot. Tonight is a must-win. A loss tonight and it's likely all she wrote. Two weeks ago, the Mounties defeated Bloomsburg, 114-107 (OT). The Huskies, also with a 3-14 conference record, are also still somehow alive. So, this is essentially a playoff game. Mounties -7

Clarion at Slippery Rock - A short time ago, the Golden Eagles had a chance to reach .500 at 10-10. That didn't happen. If fact, Clarion hasn't won since and is now 9-14. A road trip to Morrow Field House tonight won't help matters. But, let's remember, the Golden Eagles' last win was an upset of Slippery Rock. Gerald Jarmon went crazy in that game, finishing with 35 points. The problem, however, is Clarion's other star, Connor Ferrell, hasn't played in two weeks. If he returns tonight, the Golden Eagles can stay in the game. Without him, the Rock will likely win easily. SRU -8

Shippensburg at West Chester - A loss tonight would be the dreaded No. 8 for the Raiders -- officially putting them on the NCAA bubble. West Chester lost at Shippensburg 5 days ago, 76-67. The Rams, however, are much tougher in their building, and are coming off a blowout of Bloomsburg. How will the Raiders respond after Saturday's setback in Lock Haven? Tough game to pick. West Chester is going to want to turn this into a physical altercation and Ship can't afford any of its Top 6 to get in foul trouble. The lack of depth while being on the road could be a bad combination. Rams win a tight one. WCU -3

Shepherd at Lock Haven - The Rams hammered the Bald Eagles by 19 points in Round 1. But, Lock Haven gets hammered a lot on the road. They are a different animal in their building. Shepherd takes the same approach. They haven't been too hot outside of Shepherdstown. Consider in their last road trip they lost at Bloomsburg, then came home and lost in the final seconds to California. Logic says take the home team. Lock Haven wins a tight one in the range of 68-64. Bald Eagles -4

California at Pitt-Johnstown - This will not be a fun experience for the officials tonight. UPJ typically doesn't draw well, but they do get nice, rowdy crowds for big games. Tonight is certainly a big game. Add in 40 minutes of Danny Sancomb, and the three officials better have Xanax or ear plugs. Maybe both. UPJ, of course, won the first meeting in thrilling fashion, 71-70. Should Cal win tonight, it would put the Mountain Cats two games behind IUP in the West race. If the Vulcans win tonight, they are right back in the mix for the coveted Round 1 bye. On paper, most intangibles point to California -- more size, speed, etc. But, UPJ finds ways to win -- especially in their house. Expect another nail biter. Vulcans get their revenge. Barely. Cal -2

Gannon at Edinboro - The Knights may be taking out ads in the student newspaper for players here shortly. An already depleted roster took another loss Saturday when point guard Braden Olsen went down. While his status is unknown for tonight, it's probably unlikely he plays. Edinboro has four games left and, in reality, has to probably finish the season 4-0. With IUP and Slippery Rock looming, that won't be easy. But, the Scots have to get this one tonight. One at a time and see what happens. A loss tonight and it's over. Take the desperate team. Gannon will fight, but it has too many unknowns. Edinboro -4
