At least they know they have no business in D1. But not even stopping at D2, just going to D3. Probably where Mercyhurst should have went....

One thing this does is obviously end any remote speculation that they could be joining the PSAC.

      One door closes, another ...

The NEC -- if it's going to survive -- is going to need another member. The league had (8) football-playing members last year.

St. Francis wins the conference and drops to D3 but yet Hurst jumps up thinking it will help the University financially. What a joke Hurst is. NIL will kill all the lower level conferences and schools.

Absolutely it will. Revenue sharing and the big schools wanting to keep everything for themselves. The gravy train is ending.

Now the NEC will have to try and convince somebody else to jump. It already has a bunch of crap schools that weren't even that good in D2: Mercyhurst, Stonehill, and LeMoyne just to name a few.

            Will the NEC pursue Gannon?

              What are you talking about?

Stonehill made multiple Elite Eights and a Final Four.

Mercyhurst made 5 straight NCAA's and an Elite Eight in the 6 years before moving up.

Lemoyne made an Elite Eight in 2018.

I agree with the Gannon suggestion. There's an opening now if Gannon has the $ and interest in taking it.

If I was betting, the NEC will be a memory within two years.

Mercyhurst (and most of the others) will not be attractive to other D1 leagues. I'd guess most will come back to D2 or pull a St. Francis.

Their athletic programs in an entire context. Not just one or two sports. None of these schools strike me as having the money or the resources to elevate to D1 like they did.

I think Gannon is smart enough to stay right where they are.

Gannon will need to make a choice sometime soon. Unless there ends up being a scholarship level of college basketball with no NIL, I don't see Division II lasting another 25 years. There's zero ROI. That's why St Francis isn't dropping to Division II.

I can't picture Gannon going D1 just yet or joining Hurst. They may go, but i don't think they'll follow Hurst
