Another defensive struggle. SWMS I thought played smart… they were physical and really made Bennett work just to bring the ball up. He had a great game, but he really worked for everything he got. If anyone can’t wait for Isaiah to get back to action, it has to be Bennett. He needs someone to take some of that ball handling pressure off of him, not to mention, he’s our best defensive guard. It’s early and I’m not too concerned, but we have to figure out how to move the ball a little better to get good shots for the guys that can shoot. Without Isaiah, Stirtz is really the only guy who can create opportunities for himself or others. There are times though, with him always probing the defense, that he misses or is late on the “pop “action that Dreamer is so good shooting off of. They’ll figure it out. Good win Mustangs! On to the next.

I'm not here to gloat - I saw your women's team play today. They had a great back-and-forth game with Minnesota-Crookston and it was neat seeing them get the win. Scrappy bunch that wasn't out when down.

NW defeated UIU behind a SBC tourney record 30 pts from Wes. Isaiah played about half the game(his 1st playing time this season due to injury. Tomorrow night vs EU Lions from GA who beat NSU on their home court tonight

Lost a tough one against Emmanuel 75-72, I’m not freaking out because Ben will get it figured out but currently it seems like NW D is reaching more leading to a lot of fouls.

We had a nice lead but let it slip away. That Technical on the bench was a killer. Does anyone know what happened? Was it on Ben?

Just watched the replay of game … WTF was the technical for!

P.S. This Phi Slowa the Balla offense only works if you score the ball and play lockdown defense…need to adapt to the personnel we have.

We dribble too much. Dreamer is playing well, but I still think we miss him or get it to him late too many times on the pick and pop action. We need to find some shooting to help him and Bennett out. Mascari shot well yesterday. Abreu can shoot, but if he misses a couple early, he stops being a willing shooter from the outside. I hope he's just working himself back in, but Isaiah looked like Isaiah... didn't even look at the basket. I still believe he is capable of being a key part of this team on that end, but he has to be willing to take shots. What's up with Moustakas? Is there an injury, is he in trouble, in the doghouse, not on the team anymore? It's got to be one of those, right? He's gotten 0 minutes. He may not be as strong defensively, but he is a guy who definitely isn't afraid to shoot, has good size, can post and rebound too... I'm just surprised he's not getting any time.

It's early.... can't say I'm too worried about anything yet. Playing a good preseason schedule is good for these guys and I trust Ben to iron things out on both ends. I think we're still going to be a strong team, but the margin for error may not be as great as it has been. Home game on Wednesday!

I have the same questions on Moustakas, seems to me he could be the answer to the shooting woes if Isaiah refuses to contribute offensively. It was good to see Mascari get into rhythm and hope it continues. Sometimes that good shot comes early in the possession.

NW plays one time MIAA member UMSL at Maryville University in St Louis 3:15 pm the 22nd. Hope Ben can work out some kinks before MIAA play.
We’re heading to the game and hope to see Tapp there.

I agree 100% that they could get into their offense and look to score earlier in the possession. There are way too many times right now where we’re forced into a poor contested shot because the clock is winding down. That goes back to having willing shooters and we don’t right now… at least not enough of them.

There were several times in the Emmanuel game where Dreamer was calling for the ball and no one found him. All your above is basically the same convo husband and I had watching the game wind down.

I also still feel confident, early days yet. And I expect it might take this group a little time to find their identity after the last few years.
