The race to the bottom is on. Perhaps someone can be in charge of time outs next season. We sure could have used one in the third quarter last night but we saved them for the end when game was essentially over. Too many bad firsts for this coach. Most striking is no NCAA tournament in how many seasons.
Coach Foster already hit the bottom in this race. Who is running things at Drury now? Not even an overflow the O game this year. Guess the disappointed turn out from prior years was a sign.
I’ve said this in the past. The basics aren’t being taught such as playing a little defense, rather we foul. Run some screens to get our shooters a little space, rather they have to make their own space. Run an offense that isn’t predictable, rather players stand around waiting for Daniel’s to make a play. I’m concerned for next season to see who coach can recruit, maybe just sticking to looking on UTube for shooting guards. She was proud of that. Miller and Eagan are having fantastic seasons because they coach,vs the hope that is now Drury women’s basketball. I’m sure the majority of the teams in GLVC would love to have our record but this is Drury, Right? Watched The MSU lady Bears yesterday and that coach did a remarkable job. When players subbed out the assistant coach would talk to them about opportunities or situations. Drury assistants currently are just getting a free good seat to the game. They don’t coach. Good luck in the future
Thank you for bringing the truth to this message board. I understand wanting to support Drury, but im glad you are not sugarcoating what is going on like other posters. You nailed it while everyone else is dancing around foul trouble being the issue.??
Last night was nothing but a combination of the lack of discipline, lack of coaching ability, lack of recruiting, lack of everything needed to win. It is embarrassing to watch what happened last night and think of how quickly Nyla has demolished this program. I’m not even referring to the loss because Quincy is extremely well coached. Watching players get technicals, watching miscommunication on the floor, watching the coaching staff visibly argue with each other, watching Brooks rip her jersey out of her shorts and stand there at the end of the bench with it untucked. There’s a whole lot more wrong with this program, other than losing games You asked who to blame it is 100% Nyla. She has failed at her previous three jobs and has now failed at being an AD. Kaci Bailey is not even close to being qualified to run this program, but I’m not sure we can blame her For being put in this situation. The other day they posted on their social media something about the standard and winning 20 games back to back. Unfortunately, that is the new standard as the old standard was winning 30 games, winning the GLVC regular season, winning the GLVC conference tournament, and making it to the NCAA tournament. It’s insulting to the alumni in the boosters to say that winning 20 games is the standard. My guess is that Nyla will “retire“ next year and write off into the sunset. Unfortunately, all of the damage will have been done because very little people care about this program anymore. I have been a fan for 15 years, but I cannot support what it has become.

    • I think the coaching staff did a good job covering for this team's obvious weaknesses. One starter who could rarely make anything but a layup. Another starter who could be exposed often defensively. Another starter who needs help inside at times but the other starters are undersized as a whole. Good players, but more depth was desperately needed. What really sucked was this season's recruiting class. It was easily the worst in Lady Panther history.
I disagree on the assistant coaches. I refused to go to games starting with DEI night. I watched instead on GLVCSN. I saw knudson always following players to the water cooler or to the bench.

If they don't get good transfers next season, this program will suffer. You cant depend on freshmen to turn things around, no matter how good they are.

Perhaps the coaching staff is the weakness, no one is covering that. Anyway not sure Drury makes the GLVC tournament next year. Recruiting is the job of the coaching staff But they have to teach and coach once they get the recruits. Any decent player from the remainder of this team will be in the portal! My support financially will be withheld until there is recognition of the issues at hand. Clearly the attendance is falling so I am sure I am not alone. Drury is the new Quincy! But if 20 wins is the goal well let’s keep playing the weak pre season schedule and this non-difficult conference. It is just so disappointing to see where we are

        • I agree with some of your points. I know I'm not going going to anymore games unless things change. I dont think I would slander someone like that over basketball like the other poster. Also, one can say I have sugar coated things, but I have said the last two seasons that depth would be an issue.

Here is one thing I will say, if a university has taken federal money and instituted DEI programs into their institution, and allow coaches to take their players to volunteer at places the players and their families dont agree with, you are at a risk of alienating half or more of your fans and recruiting base. How is that for sugar coating? Word gets around in the basketball community real quick.

          • Passion may get the best of all of us for sure. It’s ok to be critical of the program, isn’t critical thinking part of the college learning experience? We need to feel we have a voice. Like I stated, the right people may not be listening or simply can’t make the change. Who knows what behind the scenes lobbying needed to be done to convince the big money boosters to agree to the current hire, can’t back down now, perhaps.
On a different note the Missouri women’s head coaching position is now open. Hopefully Molly Miller can take that role- She has been really impressive at GCU after a great run at Drury. If not there hopefully a step up to one of the Big 5 conferences. She has put together an excellent resume. Still would like to see Dejah or Peyton come back as a coach now that they are getting some assistant coaching experience.
The DEI items are a personal choice but agree that it shouldn’t be forced on the players or the fans. No offense to anyone but perhaps we should also agree to one National anthem.

            • Hey, if the right people see what we have been posting, maybe a change will happen. Booster, I wish I would have gotten your phone number when I had the chance. Have a good one and thanks for the inside insight.

As evident by what is going on in Washington now...

Watched the Quincy/Marysville game. Not pretty. But Quincy basically gutted out another one. First time Drury or Lewis hasn't won the GLVC in quite sometime.

                      • Watched the GCU first round game today. Watching that Molly Miller led team was amazing. The defense played, offensive ball movement and the effort by every member of the team was incredible. We were truly blessed by her time as a coach at Drury. Her playing days were a bit before my time but a look at the record list tells the story. GCU hit their 30th win- wow! Obviously different players than at Drury but it looked the same, like having 7 or 8 on defense. What an impact she has on the student athletes

She is a great coach. What I don't get is why she is still at Grand Canyon. Kim Caldwell (Glenville State) was coaching there after Molly, she is now the head coach at Tennessee. It doesn't get any bigger than that. Robin Fralich was coaching at Ashland at the same time Molly coached against her. Fralich is now the head coach at Michigan State. How Molly isn't a coach yet at a major college program like those two is a bit of a mystery. She has had great success at Grand Canyon. Time to move up to the big leagues.

                          • Saw an interview with her where she said she has had good D1 offers but it wasn't the right fit. The fact that Grand Canyon is a Christian university is big for her and her family. She envisions GCU as reaching the same level of Gonzaga as mid-major universities. I'll try to find the interview.

This is it I think. There might be another.

                              • I think there is only so much you can do at Grand Canyon as your area talent pool is limited and you have to find players that are okay being in Arizona, which is hot and dusty a lot of the year. But there are other places on par with Grand Canyon such as Oral Roberts or Liberty. If she is happy there though, that is all that matters!
