Tough game against LMU. LMU hit a lot of contested shots in the 4th quarter of the game. Eberhard suffered his first subpar game. The length and athleticism of LMU had a bearing on his play, but he missed some very open shots that he has made all season long. Rusty also missed more than the usual shots, but he took some very contested shots.

Looks like Scotty read my previous posts (it's a joke!) and played George only 10 minutes. He needed to counteract some of their length and athleticism with Cook. Cook, however, did not play great. I still prefer the trend, if for no other reason than it will make Cook get better sooner.

Ramser looked good in his 6 minutes of play. Wouldn't be surprised to see him off the bench in the first half on Thursday night. Coles also looked good.

The big winning margins are done (with the possible exception of Saturday night). Rockhurst is going to be a close game. They beat Central Mo last Saturday, if you did not notice.

I think the critical juncture of the game, right around the 10 minute mark in the second half, LMU hit some incredible shots while Rusty was forcing it a little on offense. He had several trips down the floor where he would make a hard drive to the basket and could not get the foul call. I'm not necessarily saying it was poor officiating (they did let a lot of contact go) but that maybe Rusty should have realized he wasn't going to get the foul called and tried something else. It was just at the wrong time as it allowed LMU to go from a two-three point lead to double digits very quickly. I guess he felt he needed to try because that is his bread and butter move and the rest of the team was stagnating on offense. I can't really say I was disappointed too much in that game. LMU is very talented and athletic. They are, however, quite beatable due to their undiscipline approach on offense. They happened to be on in the second half but I can see where they would have some trouble when the shots stop falling. Too much one on one moves.

LMU handled us pretty easily it seems. Teams with size are going to cause us problems all year I believe. Taylor is a long term project. He might be a contributor a year or two down the road, but not this year. Our best hope is for Cook and Weyer to develop quickly and for the guards to shoot well consistently. I agree that Ramser may turn out to be a real contributor off the bench, but Scotty sees these guys everyday in practice, he has the best idea of who is ready to step up and who is not.

Adam Eberhard came pretty close to getting the triple double last night (19-13-7). As I said earlier in the season, I think he will get one before he leaves BU. (It would only be the third, with the Hobbs the Great and Brandy Monks having the other two.)

William Jewell (otherwise known as the KC Foreign Legion) didn't offer a lot of competition, but the Knights played well without Rusty. Taylor wearing street clothes and a boot on the bad leg. Cook and Weyer really looked ready for prime time today. They are getting more comfortable and confident with the BU system. Next week we have the killer 3 game road stretch.

Brutal stretch coming up for you guyz. At Quincy, At Truman, At USI then home to Lewis and Parkside. What are you realistically hoping for?

3-2 would be good. 2-3 would not be devastating. 4-1 would be fantastic.

Must wins at home against Lewis and Parkside. Need to pick up one win on the road, two would be really nice and all 3 is a fantasy.

I am worried that Rusty is not going to be able to play at 100% the rest of the season. The ankle is a chronic injury that needs about 6 weeks of rest to fully heal. There is no way he will sit that long. This stretch of 5 games could not come at a worse time for him to rehabilitate the ankle. I'm sure he will be in the lineup Thursday, he's not going to let up especially in his senior season.

As Moves and I discussed during the last two games, this team is much better than I would have expected with Rusty not at 100%. That's because Davis, Eberhard and Coles have picked up their game exponentially. Davis is becoming (dare I say) Whitehead-ish. He is everywhere making the plays and most of all he is the most confident player on offense. He is not afraid to take the shot anymore. Not much else I can say about Eberhard, All-American. Coles is playing mistake free ball, and has shown the ability to score when needed. I did not include Jenkins on the list, mainly because I didn't know what to expect, but he has been great as well especially in the last 5 or 6 games. Obviously, he has gotten comfortable with the system and his shooting has picked up. The other night against Rockhurst when Rusty was obviously limping on the ankle, the team got better when he went out. Davis, Coles, Jenkins, Cook and Eberhard make for a very strong lineup. They aren't going to win every game but they have a good chance against everyone. If Rusty can somehow get back to 100%, they will be very tough to beat.

That being said, the order of the games coming up are a bit unfavorable. I think the least likely win is against Quincy, because Tagarelli is going to a huge night. Just don't think BU can stop him. That game will hurt the chances the next night against Truman which would have been the most likely win. The dreaded Saturday night game of a road trip is made worse by being on Friday. Monday's game against USI gets an extra day of rest but USI may be the best of the three. 0-3 is more likely to 3-0 or even 2-1. Winning one will still be good.

The game against Quincy might be the toughest road game of the year. BU matches up well with Quincy except at one spot: I am concerned that Tagarelli could go for 30/15 against the Knights. There is simply nobody for Bellarmine who can match his inside strength. It is possible he will do that and Bellarmine still wins the game. I think Quincy will have some problems handling Eberhard, he will have a quickness advantage over McGaughey. Truman, which is physically very similar to Bellarmine, lost by a point at Quincy with Tagarelli having a huge game.

Both teams have very good point guards in Davis and Senor, which will be a great match up. Should be a good game. Would love to see Bellarmine get a couple of early fouls on Tagarelli. Unfortunately, there is little chance that Rusty will be 100% for the game, I think he is the guy who could draw some fouls. I have resigned myself to the fact that Rusty is not going to be 100% this season, there is just no opportunity for him to sit out the required amount of time to let the ankle heal. As a result, this team will not be as good as it could have been, but that is how the basketball bounces.

You think Scotty goes with Coles instead of George to force Tag to guard Eberhard? Maybe get some fouls that way although it work in the reverse and Eberhard gets the fouls instead.

I don't see how starting Coles would force Tag to guard Eberhard. It would still be McGaughey on Eberhard. I actually think that this particular game is one that may call for more time for George. He should use up his fouls trying to keep Tag off the boards.

The advantage of not playing George would be to force Tag to guard a much quicker player, although I think Cook is the guy for that because he is demonstrably a superior rebounder to Coles or George.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from looking at BU's, QU's, and TSU's sites, neither of these games is going to be webcasted.

Sure isn't listed anywhere. Sometimes they wait till the day of the game to post it though. I know Quincy starts classes Wednesday so maybe the students post that stuff.

Prior to the new year Quincy was webcasting games, but they have not been at home since then. I thought that all the GLVC teams were mandated to particpate in the GLVCN, so you may be right and they will post it before the game on Thursday.

With regard to a "Rusty Less" lineup, I thought the combination of Eberhard, Cook, Weyer, Davis and Jenkins looked good in the part of the second half they were on the floor against WJ last Saturday. In fact you could replace Davis with Coles (whom I believe is really playing well now) and you have a peek at next year's lineup. Unless Scotty recruits a superstar transfer who can make an immediate impact.
