Re: New bellarmine thread
Outstanding first 10 minutes of basketball tonight. Can't remember when I've seen a BU team play better than that. Cook is back and raring to go. He was so active and aggressive and "amped up" tonight that some of his passes had way too much pace on them. He was calling for the ball every chance he had. Didn't hear why Jenkins wasn't dressed - was it an injury from practice or the flu or something like that? With Bach playing the way he is its hard to put him on the bench for very long and there are four other guards that deserve playing time. Good problem to have.

Re: New bellarmine thread
Sure is nice to have Cook back. The squad so far this season hasn't lacked for much, but it could use some more athleticism, and Cook fills that void quite nicely.

Jenkins reinjured his shoulder, originally hurt when Ray Spalding fell on top of him during the UL exhibition game. Hopefully, the layoff will help him heal.

William Jewell, to me, is a flash in the pan right now -- only two wins against D2 teams with a winning record (Davenport and Maryville). But, their schedule the rest of the way is pretty beneficial (BU, USI, UIndy all at home).

Drury, meanwhile, is a relatively young team that, while they will have some stumbles (cough, McKendree, cough), they have a lot of talent as well who I think will only get better and better as the year goes along.

It seems clear that some of the former also rans in the conference, Jewell, McKendree, Maryville, UMSL, UIS are improved, but I'm not sure to what degree. I did catch the end of McKendree's win over Drury and was fairly impressed with how they played down the stretch.

Re: New bellarmine thread
There isn't a team this year in the GLVC that is even close to competing with Bellarmine. The gap in talent is as wide as ever.

The biggest challenge for Bellarmine this year is Bellarmine. It is difficult to come focused and ready to play your best consistently. Even the 2011 championship team had that problem losing to St Catherine In late December.
The key, in my opinion is the defense going forward. If they can continue to play defense as a team with the same energy as the last 3 games, they should be fine. Key stats to watch are limiting opponents offensive rebounds and FG%.

Re: New bellarmine thread
Great win. This team is special and going places. Cook looked ready to play. Scotty had a big grin on his face when he tried to avoid Moves question about when Cook will be starting after the game last night. Took a friend of mine to the game who has not seen this team before. He was blown away when I told him Cook was playing for the first time this year. Then he saw that alley oop dunk and was utterly amazed Cook is playing only in d2. He is going to be a very special player.
Heard a different reason for Jenkins missing last night. He has some kind of illness, not a contagious variety, hence he was on the bench in street clothes. Hope he recovers quickly. He is a tough defensive player along with being a very clutch offensive player. Although this team has an abundance of good guards, I still like him to have a good senior season when healthy.

Re: New bellarmine thread
If you want to see the Cook alley oop dunk it is at 8;29 in the first half. It was a bit of a sneak attack.it looks like Scotty put him in at that time to specifically run that play. It was run to perfection.
I may have preferred the sequence when Cook blocked a shot and ran down court and got a nice feed while sprinting to the hoop for the hard driving lay in. (10:30 second half?)
