If my memory serves me right, TAMU-Texarkana is joining the LSC in 2027 (?) and they will have football.

Also, I don’t remember hearing any indication at any time that the RMAC was interested in either CWU or WOU or anyone else. Maybe they’ll change their minds?

Maryville University in St. Louis is expected to formally announce plans to take their program to Division 1 next Wednesday. Significant facility upgrades are expected to be made to the Maryville University Ice Rink by 27/28 which will be their first official Division 1 season.
I saw that. That will be 6 independents provided there's no movement. Would make a nice quasi conference.

With St Thomas leaving......... does the CCHA go with 8- or add one or two of those teams? Yes, 6 would be enough for an Indy conference.

Haven't heard any more news about places like Iowa, Illinois or Nebraska adding hockey, and the same for Tennessee State.

        • Seems like they are staying at 8. Missouri seems too far especially when the original premise was to have tighter geography.

          • Another school announced cutting tennis yesterday. This time it's Newman dropping it at the end of the season. Tennis has been hit hard by losing teams. What's going on; why tennis.

Can be a lot of international players who can require a large discount tuition rate. Also, a relatively small team. It’s D1 but Garner-Webb is cutting both tennis teams and standing up acro and tumbling as well as flag football…

Likely Texas Wesleyan to the LSC and the LSC doesnt renew the current agreement with Central Washington and Western Oregon.

I heard rumors that the RMAC isnt an option.

It does upset some CW and WO folks, but hard to see being an independent D2 like NE State without close options and may need to consider moves up/down.
What about the GSC? I mean a plane flight is a plane flight.

Yep. This is the answer. Can cut two programs (men and women). No Title IX violation. A sport that brings in few students and it really isn't that popular with fans so won't get a lot of pushback.

Golf is another one that I could see really struggling into today's college athletics environment.

                  • Visiting with a friend while attending a Chadron State basketball game. Chadron State is in big time trouble. Shrinking enrollment, especially in-person enrollment. Chadron State is down to just 900 in-person students. I am not sure of the overall enrollment when you include distance learners (I am thinking that well over half the enrolled students are distance learners) I guesstimated that close to 1/2 the in-person students are on the athletic teams (I skimmed over all the rosters on the athletics site). Chadron, as a town is shrinking, has been for at least a couple of decades. Just in the last year, Chadron lost a Safeway grocery store, Pizza Hut, and some locally owned restaurants. The viability of the college is in serious trouble.

Reason? Rising tuition costs. College has become too expensive and is no guarantee to living a financially stable life.

I hope not. one other problem is Chadron's isolation.

Isolation is not really a problem. It can be argued it might actually be a feature. Chadron is in a fairly scenic area of Nebraska with plenty of outdoors activities. Also....it is the 2nd largest town in a 100 mile radius, so it's quite a regional draw. Isolation was not a problem for most of the history of the college, and, I think in the age of digital media/internet, isolation is even less of an issue. I am sure there are other colleges in isolated areas, I wonder how they are doing? If population is declining in smaller rural settings, then perhaps Chadron might not be alone in this sort of situation.

It might also be more difficult to recruit international players in some non-revenue sports to come play in the US and to get them into the US.

State schools are in a lot less trouble than private schools. Politicians are not going to want to close state institutions (even though some probably should), and as far as tuition, it is much less than a private school.

I would think both sides would have to consider that for mutual football survival.

                              • I thought that this was interesting on a thread called "Moving Day".

News: NCAA is facing an uphill battle with a shortage of charter plane availability for men's and women's NCAA Tournament. Member schools have been notified to expect some upheaval that could include refueling, late notice of departure times. Team manifests due this week.
