If a first-year coach can get Edinboro to 7 wins in the PSAC West, a first-year coach can get WLU to 7 wins in the MEC.

New coaches, provided they are good, can turn a DII prog around quickly. Guess the good news is that there aren't many players coming back so there are ample opportunities for transfers to come in and start immediately.Originally posted by EastStroud13 View PostIf a first-year coach can get Edinboro to 7 wins in the PSAC West, a first-year coach can get WLU to 7 wins in the MEC.

It was more a jab at the first 2 points of your wish list.Originally posted by boatcapt View Post
Why?
Particularly at the DII level, a new HC can turn a program around seemingly overnight. This guy is supposed to be a QB whisperer sooo why would he not be able to bring in a good D1 transfer? As for the defensive stuff, there are quality assistants out there who would be high quality DII DC. WLU is just as good a place as the next for a new DC to prove himself.
And besides, this is a Christmas wish list. If you can't ask Santa for everything you want, what chance do you have to get it??!! I don't make the rules, I just live by them!!
1, high regarded d1 QBs don’t transfer down to D2 programs, let alone struggling ones.
2. Ditto for prominent pass rushers. Average pass rushers aren’t coming down either. Lineman are unicorns for our level in the transfer portal. All the good ones are going up, not down.
wish list indeed. Not unique to WL, shepherd ain’t getting those guys either. Neither are the best programs, just reality.

My son played against one of ODU's main RB's in the state championship game, and Patterson will definitely be bigger, faster, and stronger than that kid. My son did say that he thinks he'd be great returner but WLU didn't want him to get hurt.Originally posted by boatcapt View Post
He'll probably be special teams and perhaps a couple of mopup carries in blowouts

He will certainly have an opportunity to prove his worth in spring and fall practice. But I note that ODU seems to favor RB's of the small scat back variety. He'll be looking to supplant two returning RB's who averaged 7.5 and 5.7 yards per carry.Originally posted by WestLibertyTopperDad View Post

But hey, good luck to him. On paper he has one year of college eligibility (even though he only played football for two years after running track in 2021/22 and 2022/23) so I hope he makes it everything he thought it should be.

Don't know. Scholarship funding is mysterious enough...coach funding is a level of mystery even beyond that! It's one thing if you are a teacher who takes a "part time" gig as an assistant coach, quite another if you are a complete outsider.Originally posted by RockNation View PostI've heard some good names ones familiar with recruiting the area are interested in getting on board... I'm not familiar with WLU's $$ situation. Is there potential?

I note that there are vacancy announcements for all assistant coach/coordinator positions on the WLU HR site. I believe they where posted on or about Dec 25.Originally posted by Sportsnut View PostAny assistant coaches hired yet? Hoping to bring several from Cal with him for upgrades to coordinators.
