    Re: Denny Douds retired today??

Hopefully he was an inspiring/good person to his players, his record indicates he had some pictures of the ESU president and thus was untouchable.

It's this kind of garbage that makes me sick. Grow up already...

Career record averages out to 5-5 or 6-5 on a yearly basis. He must have been a good man. He would have been asked to leave at other programs. Sorry to make you sick.

          That's a bit much.

6-5 on less than 10 full scholarships is pretty good. Plus there are other aspects to managing the program. He's also from the old model of smaller school athletics where the coach was also a professor.

Monte Cater was kept around after 1/3 of his seasons being 6 wins or less. Fortunately there were several years where 5 wins got you at least 2nd place in the WVIAC and 6 wins got you a WVIAC championship.

Right? I mean, he was there for 45 years and East Stroudsburg had several presidents during that time.

Very poor taste, especially coming from a non-PSAC fan. Denny started his career with 10 straight winning records in-conference. From there going forward he would reliably get the program to an 8-win season now and then, and generally kept the program from fully bottoming out. His record of 37-50 in the 2010s is unsightly, but once he hit this stage of his career, he was always going to go out on his own terms (internal workings within the ESU program we don't know about notwithstanding).

Cater didn't have year after year strings like Douds has accumulated.

And that's what's too bad for the Warriors. His longevity became more important than the success of the program.

That's a way of looking at it, true. But regardless, they were never going to simply fire him. It just wasn't going to happen.

Is there another way of looking at it?

                      We all agree on that.

And what was the epiphany that struck during Saturday's loss?

Take away his record against Mansfield and Cheyney and the total record is just a few ticks above .500.

Still to last 40 plus years at one school is a big deal because the days of that happening are long gone now.

Who knows? Pure speculation at this point. Could be that he knew this was his last year already, and wanted his last game to be at home. But there are very few people who know the real reason, and I don't think they frequent this site.

Anytime a coach resign or is let go the range of emotions can be felt throughout the organization. Some are happy and many sad, 40 years is something to be proud of and going out on your terms is even better. Good luck Coach.

LOL ... yeah, spend some time around kids in the 18-21 range ... lasting 44 years is a miracle.
