But unless whatever MIAA or GSC school we're talking about paid for IUP's expenses, I doubt Tort would do it because it would break the travel budget. Some faraway schools have offered a guarantee to play, but it's not enough to cover IUP's travel costs.
Thank goodness we don't have to hear about this Week 1 game for the next four years. Ashland is certainly a 'big boy opponent' to open each season.
Tort did say on his show a couple weeks ago that they are getting all kinds of calls for a Week 1 game (after people know they signed a 4-year deal). He said it's ironic they couldn't get a game for two years and now his phone is blowing up. Funny how that works. He also pointed out 8 of the Top 25 didn't play an 11th game.

Those non conference games were the best. National spotlight games. Fun times!

Loved those games. That Catawba game at Miller was unreal. It had it all from the disastrous start to the lightning delay to the huge IUP comeback win. It was a night game too, and I think it was a pretty late night by the time the dust settled. I remember watching Catawba walk out with looks on their faces like they had just seen a ghost.

Those games were cool for the actual football fans. I remember when IUP played Catawba (when they were a power) and also Ferris State ... and 98% of campus and fans basically said "who the F are these guys" as they'd never heard of them. So, to many it was just another game on another Saturday.

I fully expect a Shippensburg insult. Thankfully, our personal worth is not always dictated by how much our alma mater wins or loses football games.

I suppose definitions of rivalries vary.

Exhibit A: The Civil Con FLiCT
Eagles fans will say the Cowturds are our biggest rival. Cowturds “fans” say otherwise.
Yet the Eagles have beaten the Turds more times than any other team in the NFL. So for them to say we aren’t their rival is kind of cute. Oh Yeah…Dallas sucks!
