Although the final 29-10 score might not reflect it, the young Shippensburg defense hung tough against Kutztown today. I think Kutztown started at least five drives inside the Ship 40, but was turned away on quite a few of them. Unfortunately, Kutztown kicker Dawson Evitts hit five field goals, none of them exactly chip shots for a D2 kicker. He might have been Kutztown's MVP for the game. Also young on offense, the Raiders couldn't get much going against a veteran Kutztown defense (four graduate students plus six seniors starting on defense veteran enough for ya?). QB Sam Johnson was hurried much of the day, and threw a couple of ill-advised INTs. There was one sequence in the second quarter when Ship started on their own 25, lost 20 yards on an errant snap, and then produced a poor punt from the end zone that put the ball on the 24. So the drive netted a total of -1 yard. The "D" held Kutztown to a field goal from there. Kutztown defense is pretty effective, but their offense seemed plain vanilla — kinda surprised they beat Cal. IUP has much better talent on offense.

Sounds familiar. MEC basketball teams routinely score 100 points and lose.
