My point is these stadiums aren’t amenity laden Show palaces.

They serve their purpose. It’s why I chuckle when people rail about IUP’s lack of facilities when cash in hand to students is what does the talking these days. The players don’t care what the press box looks like, don’t care what the weight room looks like if it serves it’s purpose..the remodeled locker room is nice but so what…they care how much of their stay is being paid for….
I agree for the most part. They do serve the purpose and I don't think any of them are going to wow a recruit. But I think they do care to a degree about the stadium having at least a clean look. I haven't been to IUP, but the way some of you guys describe it does seem like a bit of a speed bump to a degree in recruiting. I don't think guys give a crap about the weight room, and yes you are right $$$ is the overriding factor for sure.

If Ship comes up with that kind of cash I'd rather see it go for additional scholarships rather than another physical facility.

For me, the only real blemish is the visitors stands, which are off center of the field. I've heard they'd like to rebuild that portion of it in the not so distant future. With the pavilion area (which serves more or less like box seating at a bigger stadium, think you can BYOB as well) the Shepherd game day experience I'd throw up there with certainly anyone on this side of the country. Might not be as big as some of the mid west schools, but pound for pound I think it holds up quite well.

I think Shippensburg's facility is perfectly adequate for our needs. I think they do need to make restrooms available on the visitors' side, and they need to reopen the concession stand on the south side of the bleachers, which has been closed since Covid. The lines for concessions get ridiculous at times.

Wrong again. The best Press Box in the East, if not the entire PSAC is at Redman Stadium at Bloomsburg. The Press Box at Eiler-Martin could use a makeover for sure. It does have the benefit of individual booths for media, and a commemorative plaque for that infamous scoreboard message from back in the day.

Yeah they all do. We all have variations on standard high school stadiums. SRU stadium is much better than IUP.

I believe Ship and Slip are the only two schools left with the required facilities to host the PSAC track championship.

The only stadium with a wow factor in the Pee Sack is Bloomsburg and only because of the view.

The Cig needs a new home side..the decades old perimeter prison fence needs to go and it would be nice to have a head house structure with a real ticket booth and maybe a satellite co-op Store merch store. Just give me 10-20 million and I’ll make it nice…

Im still a little bummed Lock Haven didn’t get the winning season if only to finally fix sone of the seemingly permanent damage done to the program by you know who…

None of them are palaces except for the press box at The Denny. I heard it’s the Taj Mahal of D2 Press Boxes.

I'd argue IUP and SRU jobs are better than RMU. Yes, RMU is D1, the salary is presumably higher, and the scholarship "support" is higher, but that's about it. RMU has a newer stadium but its one-sided (with some nice interior spaces) and small but no concession stand or ticketing. They literally use rolling carts and a trailer for merch & meals. Video board, one president's box, and newer turf but that's about it. Overlooks University Boulevard and Moon Plaza. If IUP redid their home bleachers they're instantly better.

RMU isn't a traditional college so you have to recruit guys who will study accounting or engineering and play football. Its also difficult to transfer in/out of because they have so few general education requirements. Its also landlocked along a busy commercial street in a suburban community that doesn't embrace the university being there. TSure, RMU can get paid $350k to fly to Colorado and get hosed by Air Force.

IUP has a vibrant off campus experience with a town that doesn't require hopping on I-376 to do things beyond Sheetz and Walmart. You can live off campus and walk to/from things. IUP also has a traditional liberal arts general education requirement with a MUCH more traditional set of majors. RMU doesn't have safety science, exercise science, or most humanities programs. There is no off campus party scene at RMU because students live in regular apartment complexes with people living in Moon Township. The "college" bar is down in Coraopolis. $45 Uber each way to go out on the South Side.

IUP has tradition. They've won. They've put guys into the NFL. RMU has Hank Fraley. here is virtually no tradition for football. Their best season was during the non-scholarship days. Any connection to Joe Walton and the 70s Steelers is gone. These kids and maybe even their parents are too young to remember Bernard Clark and Rod Holder from those Miami teams. IUP has a decent chance to win the conference most years. I don't see RMU doing that unless they limp back to the NEC for football.

Football at RMU is probably the #3 men's sport for both the school, students, and alumni and I don't see that changing. At IUP its #2 for the school and students but #1 for alumni. Basketball is king at RMU and keeps them D1. Hockey is #1 for students and just received a major infusion of funds and support thanks to the previous president incorrectly betting his legacy (and job) on eliminating hockey to prop up football.

SRU doesn't have IUP's money but they have a better stadium and better attendance. Nothing against Todd Garzarelli, but Roberta Page is probably the best AD in D2.

After this post they may offer you a job in Sutton Hall.
