ESU has a ton of WRs right now, so it's not really a position of need. ESU also has 4 other verbal commits from WRs.

                  • Interesting addition to the spring roster comes from the basketball team in Jr. Camden Glass 6-8 DE. Looked like the strongest guy on the b-ball team. The last basketball player to play football at Bloom was Larry Webster at DE. He played two years at Bloom after basketball eligibility ended , sacked Johnny football in a pro game, and played a couple of years in the NFL.

Looks like Skyler Smith 6'0 200 QB Malvern Prep de-committed from Lafayette due unfortunate circumstances and committed to Bloom.

That's a pretty high accolade. Is he related to John Stutzman?

The connection to Bloom was thru an Exeter H.S. football coach and former player Alex Dundore who played at Exeter and Bloom.

                        • Are all PSAC teams wearing the soft helmet covers? Noticed Bloom had them during spring and wore them during the spring game.

Any other news from the spring game? Notable absences, injuries, coach’s comments?

                              • College Football: Sheptock pleased with Huskies' offseason progress
                                • By DOYLE DIETZ FOR THE NEWS-ITEM
BLOOMSBURG — If the Bloomsburg University football team is looking for a slogan to use during summer workout the line that is fitting would be “Workin’ here boss” from the film “Cool Hand Luke.”

It appears the Huskies have been doing plenty of work based on their showing Saturday on Danny Hale Field at Redman Stadium in their annual Maroon-Gold spring game. Coach Frank Sheptock had the offense run 52 scripted plays that concentrated on game situations rather than actual game, and both the offense and defense had their moments.

Starting at its 1-yard line on the first of nine series, the offense moved the ball out of the shadow of its end zone, gaining field position to the 30.

Most of the offensive series started between the 30s, and all but one produced first downs. Scoring, however, was at a premium, with the only points coming on field goals of 25 and 29 yards by backup kicker KJ Riley — the starting quarterback — and a 6-yard run by Riley Parker in a goal-to-goal series.

“No. 1, I am very pleased with our rhythm on offense,” Sheptock said. “We were able to establish the line of scrimmage offensively, and the defense showed mobility.

“What we were able to do was look at the big picture, and we’re going to have more speed this year. We think we can take another step forward.”

After being picked to finish eighth in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East last year, the Huskies exceeded expectations with a 6-5 record and a third-place finish. This season, they look to build on that success with five of their 11 games at home.

Bloomsburg opens the season on road Thursday, Sept. 4, against Fairmont State. This is the second time in three years the Huskies will play the school from Fairmont, West Virginia.

Bloomsburg remains on the road in Week 2 when it travels to Greensburg to play Seton Hill in a PSAC East/West crossover game Saturday, Sept. 13. Then the Huskies play their home opener Saturday, Sept. 20, against Edinboro and during halftime all student-athletes, coaches, and teams who earned honors during the 2024-25 winter and spring seasons will be recognized.

Riley believes the winning record last year will have a carryover effect going into this season. He said a strong bond has been built during off-season workouts and spring practice.

“We’re continuing to develop offensively and come together,” Riley said. “I see the same thing happening with the defense, which has a good mix.

“It’s important that we continue to build on what we did last year. I see us coming together as a team.”

Bloomsburg will be tested early with three of its first four games on the road, including its PSAC East opener Saturday, Sept. 27, against Shippensburg. When the Huskies return home Saturday, Oct. 4, to take on Lock Haven the game will serve as both the Husky Legacy Club Game and the annual Think Pink game.

At the event the Huskies will honor the championship teams from 1985 (40th anniversary), 1995 (30th), 2000 (25th), 2005 (20th), and 2010 (15th). Additional details about the alumni celebration will be announced in the coming weeks.

After a trip to East Stroudsburg Saturday, Oct. 11, the Huskies will celebrate Homecoming/Parents and Supporters Weekend Friday-Sunday, Oct. 17-19. They play Shepherd Saturday, Oct. 18.

Concluding the weekend Sunday, Oct. 19, is the 43rd annual Bloomsburg Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon. More information, including registration details, will be available in mid-May.

After road games against Millersville Saturday, Oct. 25, and West Chester Saturday, Nov. 1, the Huskies close the season with two home games. They play Kutztown Saturday, Nov. 8, and Slippery Rock Saturday, Nov. 15, in what is potentially the PSAC Championship Game.

Final opponents for the championship will depend on the top seeds from the PSAC East and West divisions. The final is also Senior Day and Military Appreciation game.
