  • Looked like many former players showed up to honor Coach Hale. They got their monies worth in the last few minutes. Bloom could easily be 4-0 or 1-3. They struggle, but don't give up the fight.

    • I didn’t notice this during the game but BU had K.J. Riley do all of the placekicking yesterday which means that he was technically responsible for all of BUs points. 2 passing TDs, 1 rushing TD, 1 FG, and 2 XP.

"Riley finished the day 17-for-22 with 280 yards and two touchdown passes, while running in for another and collecting 32 yards on the ground. Riley was 2-for-3 on extra point attempts, had a 25-yard field goal kick, and had 101 yards punting on four punts. Riley's 280 passing yards was a career high, and his field goal was his first career FG conversion."

Besides being the quarterback and place kicker, he also is the punter and he kicks off. I haven't seen anything close to that since George Blanda. Injuries have made him the triple threat.

The box score for yesterday’s game lists Idriz Ahmetovic (freshman DB) as the kickoff guy. And as cool and old-school as having the QB handle punts is BU may want to prioritize finding better specialists this off-season because they are the worst in the league at net punting yards and net kickoffs so far and it’s not close on either count.

#2 Riley kicked off the entire game and can be see on the replay kicking off. I listened to radio broadcast and Jim Doyle also called it unusual.

Perhaps the automated scoring system is screwed up. I didn’t tune into the game until late and didn’t notice who was kicking off, just that they weren’t long kicks. Either way the kicking game has not been a strength this year.

Well they have three on the roster, but there have been injuries. They also lost a couple to graduation that could have come back for a 5th year, and one in the portal to Univ. of Central Florida. Kicking game is the weakest link.

                • I thought Bloom would have a winning season, after the surprising 3-1 start, they still could, But my hopes have dimmed after the last two weeks. I do think have a better team than Shippensburg coming up, So at least 4 wins is totally possible.

They could have beaten Seton Hill, but ESU and Kutz where clearly better teams, and Bloom did nothing to control their QBs. Bloom is struggling at QB with 4 interceptions in two games and little production at that spot. They should have better chance in the next few games, according to the odds makers.

I would call the game against LHU a tossup, say BU are probably slight favorites against MU and Ship, and have low odds of beating Shep. The scheduled crossover is SRU but I don’t see that happening. The easiest change assuming KU wins the east and SRU wins the west would be to swap opponents and play IUP, which you could chalk up as a likely loss as well. Even if BU somehow sweeps the other dregs of the east to finish 6-5 I think it’s time for Sheptock to go. He’s been coaching NCAA football for a long time now but still hasn’t shown during his BU tenure that he can be a consistently good in-game decision maker or game planner, the team’s penalty problems (cost them against Seton Hill) speak ill of his culture-building/team control, and the poor showings against better talent despite being fairly experienced are enough for me to say it’s time.

I like Sheptock from what I see, but I suspect he micromanages. The number of coaches he has had in four years is a problem; I know the pay isn't good and most left for better jobs. Offensive Coordinators 3, Defensive Coordinators 3, Defensive Secondary 4, and then there are the part time coaches. A new offense every year is difficult to comprehend and the talent just isn't there given the limited scholarships.

                        • We all know the issues. Have to let this play out a little
more before screaming for change I see this weekend as an absolute must win game. Everyone on here loves to say how far LH has come along. The Huskies can shut that all down with a win. I think Bloom is the better team but need to play a complete game like they did in Game 1

This is Sheptock’s fifth season as the HC. The team and staff are built in his image, under his recruiting and football philosophies. How much more time do we need to give him before we form an opinion? I don’t mind if people disagree and think he should stay but there has been ample time to evaluate his performance. Add in that there’s already an existing body of work from his time at Wilkes and I don’t think he’s going to suddenly change drastically as a HC.

Is that the basis for termination? Not as good as Hale? I'm not sure that's fair, but I too am growing weary of the losing.
