That's probably true and I was being a little bit facetious. However, a week ago you could have said the same thing about Mercyhurst. Ultimately, Hurst going D1 in all sports takes money. Where does that money come from?

The difference is who owns each campus. State System Schools were kinda forced into the Pee Sack. Cheyney’s mission is survival now. Lincoln is offering g more of a true HBCU experience which is important to students wanting to attend one…

As previously stated, Cheyney is a PA state school and has always been a member of PSAC and its predecessors (from the league's formation in 1951 until CU dropped athletics). Lincoln hasn't ever been that and does not have that history.

Also, while both are HBCU's, they are not identical in their mission, primarily because CU is a state school Lincoln is state-related and that makes it different. If you look at the respective mission statements for the schools, Lincoln strongly emphasizes Liberal Arts education, making it more closely aligned with D3 liberal arts colleges than the state school model. Cheyney's mission is up for debate, as it has been for the last 30 or so years.

Ultimately, my perception is that LU identifies much more closely with the CIAA than the PSAC, even though a number of the CIAA members are state schools.

West Florida is considering going D1 & hoping the ASUN

New Haven is considering going D1 & join the NEC - this could happen this season

Bentley is the other school rumored to join the NEC - but the NEC will only take one program - them or New Haven - depending on what school wants to make the jump

UINDY was going to join the OVC (D1) but their board never got to vote on making the jump - some feel matter of time before they are D1

Grand Valley State & VSU are rumored to be going to the OVC with UINDY both have said their plans are to go D1

West Georgia has made the jump and will be D1 this season

If everyone moves up, D1 means less. It also reduces the scraps of the pie from March Madness and will only embolden the P5 to further consolidate and stack the system against the little guys. All making a move to the bottom of a very tall totem pole less valuable. But what the F do we know.

Until the ongoing attempt to rebuild PASSHE schools into more specialized schools, weren't they all focused on a Liberal Arts education?

While LU might align more closely with the CIAA than the PSAC, they are also pretty much on an island with long trips to most of their other conference members. If driving distance drives the conference realignment model, LU in the PSAC makes much more sense for LU and the rest of the PSAC than staying in the CIAA.

The PASSHE schools pretty much evolved from teachers colleges into liberal arts schools by the time PASSHE was formally created in the 1980s.

Yeah, the liberal arts push started at Ship in the mid-'60s. I know this because I was one of the early liberal arts majors at Ship, switching from a secondary education major.

VSU? As in... Valdosta? The OVC seems like a very odd fit, I'd have expected them to be taken by the ASUN or Big South.

Grand Valley is the one that truly belongs in D1. They could join the OVC and immediately be competitive in pretty much every sport. If they make that move, I think it's only a matter of time before they jump the OVC for even greener pastures.
