    - St. Francis University (PA) - Could they drop down?
    - Alvernia University - That school has been expanding academically and athletically
    - King's (PA) - Strong athletics program across the board and I think they are less beholden to the D3 creed than others. Would provide a NEPA presence
    - Susquehanna University - Really strong in football
    - Eastern University - Expanding academically and athletically, I don't think they feel comfortable in D3
    - Delaware Valley University - Del Val would be a great addition to the PSAC and they are all-around successful
    - Widener University - Ok, maybe if it was the 70's or 80's. Who knows?
I thought the same about St. Francis, but what about any other low tier D1 NEC? Also, wasnt there a rumor St. Francis was interested? I thought someone posted about it in the past.

It's been a rumor for years

Well documented on the MEC board that the football coach has stayed way past his prime. I thought it was the AD and WLU's athletics sugar daddy, but they've both moved on so who knows. I'd rather not add a school that is going to further make a slowly declining WPIAL recruiting base even more competitive.

That's the interesting thing with WL ... the right coach could blow that place up. They aren't shy about spending.

The current mess there with the HC is quite an interesting tale.

They have a cool little stadium. About as good as you can do with a one-sided field, I just don't recall parking being all that great when I last visited.

As far as other low-tier NEC teams, no, I don't think it would make any sense for Duquesne or Robert Morris. Given that the commish said 1) from PA, and 2) has to have football, I think it's about a 90% chance it comes from the list I posted. I think the situation also represents a great opportunity to add a strong new member, making the PSAC better overall. I'm excited to see who it is.

Its my understanding that the preferences from presidents (those with the voting power):
                1. Football playing or football-ready
                2. Public
                3. In PA

Willing to compromise on 2 and 3.

I think St Francis is the most likely to drop from the NEC. Duquesne is only a member for football. Their home conference is the Atlantic 10. Robert Morris maybe down the road. They have a lot of pride to collectively swallow.

As far as I know, there are no schools which meet all 3 of those criteria. Football ready? Hmmm.

If you say "football-ready" that opens it up to schools that might have aspirations of starting up football. York College? I still think it will come from my list.

It hurts me to say it, but WLU is beyond bad in football...and they appear not to care enough to do ANYTHING about it! They certainly would be on the bottom rung in the PSAC and quite possibly would be the worst football program. As for them being good in the past...Yea...over a decade ago.

To me, Lincoln is the closest. They're kinda sorta public and play football in PA.

Your list was pretty good. I don't see Charleston moving. We'd drive past several MEC schools to get there.

True. And they have played other PSAC teams. I think some of the other mentions would bring more to the PSAC, though.

                        • Honest question: is it hard to move up from d3 to d2 and in another question is it hard to drop down?

                          • So St. Francis is willing to give up being D1 in basketball?

It depends. A private school has to have the budget flexibility to start budgeting in the tuition discounts that count as athletic scholarships. A public school usually has to fundraise those real dollars.

I think dropping down is easy but it's a punch to the ego but most D3 conferences have schools with a lot more in common than geography. The Presidents Athletic Conference isn't accepting Clarion.

Not necessarily true. Most state school's athletic scholarships don't work like the PASSHE.
